Does my OSX matter?

I picked up a Macbook for work. It'll be preinstalled with Lion. I'm on Snow Leopard on my MacPro. If both are running the same version (updates and all) of FCS, I'll be able to go back and forth on projects, right?

Yeah, if your Final Cut Pro 7 is the same under both Lion and Snow Leopard (i.e. patches, plugins, ect.) you should have no problem. Hell, I go back and forth between Premiere on Win/OSX all the time with no issues.

I having a similar issue. I'm picking up an imac next week. I have FCS3 and I wonder if the software will run on the new imac. The sales guy at apple said it wouldn't but I've read that it can be done.

Ideally, I would love to have soundtrack, compressor, livetype, FCP (7 not X) on my new machine.

I've had no issues moving FCP7 projects between Leopard and Snow Leopard. I haven't tried Lion yet.
edit:
I don't believe FCP7 would make use of anything new that Lion has to offer since it is now a legacy application.

Lion works with FCP7 and FCS3.

A friend reported that FCP7 and FCS3 are also compatible with the developer version of Mountain Lion.

Got it.
Thanks for the responses guys. I'll report back my experiences and hiccups (if any) in a week or so.

FCP 7 = FCS3... Or more specifically Final Cut Pro 7 the application is a part of Final Cut Studio 3 the bundle.

We have two systems running Snow Leopard and two systems running Lion and share our FCP files over a large SAN, no problems between systems. They are all running FCS 3.
