Does anyone else love rendering?

I love to finish a long edit at 3 in the morning...export/render my cut and let my computer do all the work while I sleep in the next morning to awake to a nice finished product and rejuvenated body/mind/soul.

yes and no.

yes -> when the final output is what you want.

no -> when you realise you need to re-render.. argghh!

And especially no when you crashed only an hour into your sleep and have to start over when you wake up.

That happened to me this weekend, but with Compressor. I was doing on-site video for a convention, which has to be turned around (video shot Thursday and Friday) to DVD by Saturday, along with web-compressed versions.

Set up the batch list Friday night and woke up Saturday to find that Compressor had failed to complete the web-ready versions (errors). At least the DVD-ready files were done.

Doing a 240 hr one now for 3 seconds. Luckily it can render in the background because it's not memory intensive. So I can still work a bit and besides I can stop the render and 'resume' later where it left off.

The only reason I'm doing it is because I like how it looks. And as they say, videos are forever. So, I'm sucking it up.

But no, I don't like rendering. But the end result is what counts. No one cares how long it took when they see it.

And (for the wintel bunch) especially when your new computer does a Windows update at 3am and reboots. New Computer checklist: Disable Windows Update.

If I didn't have to render, would I spend half as much time here on the forum???
The quick, single renders that is, not overnight.

Let me guess: Vue d Esprit?

Frank

Model setup done in C4d then particled and meshed in RF4 then into, yes, Vue 7 for materials and final render. How did you guess? Are you stalking me?
( yes, it's my abstract. But it's cool and worth it, imo)

I prefer delivering.
If that was referring to me, I have every intention of doing so.
And I'm only interested in getting one persons repsonse other than myself.

It's not a big deal to anyone other than me and them. But I like to share and posted a still grab already.

I'm not sure if that quote was intended for me and or to be insulting, but knowing you I don't think so. Either way, you know me well enough that I don't care anyways. I've shown my stuff since day 1 on this board, good or bad and continue to do so.

-Cheers

Well, you followed PostMasters quote which quoted me and followed with...
"I prefer delivering."

If you follow the converstation like a conversation, then, sorry, I thought it was a carry over.
My bad. I suck at online socialising anymore.

These 3 or 4 word posts just bewilder me all to hell sometimes.
Anyways, poo poo it. I catch on soon enough.

I hate rendering. I hope one day the need to do it will vanish. I can see rendering a transformer or something, but that's what render farms are for. Me, I CC a feature length film...5 hours. Run it through compressor...29 hours. I really don't like leaving my Mac on for that long unattended. But it's part of the game.

One day we will laugh at this....

reminds me of a line about a fax machine from the film Almost Famous "we have this mojo down at the office....it transmits pages over the telephone....yeah, it only takes 18 minutes a page..."

Bah, video rendering is easy. Try rendering 3d animations where when you wake up, you have a good 30 frames rendered! Ugh.
