Does a Stabilizer Do Any Good?

I can't speak for that particular model, however I am using the Zacuto Rapid Fire with good results. Also using a loupe of some kind (Z-Finder, LCDvf, one that you DIY, etc) will help stabilize the footage.

There's a couple threads with people using different types of stabilizers (maybe even the one you posted) and are having varying results. It seems that if it isn't pressed against your body with points of contact, then having weight is necessary to make the footage steady (counterweights, heavier rig, etc).

Best of luck,

Every HDSLR suffers from this, especially considering the small form factor. I and many others think you pretty much have to have a stabilizer of some sort, especially without stabilized lenses. Personally, I've only used one I made myself, so I can't review any others. Even my really basic one works wonders, though.

I've shot a lot of stuff handheld with the 7D and had plenty of good results and I seen footage by many others shot handheld with good results. You can't really do a lot of jerky, quick moves, but those usually look crappy anyways.

Someone on here mentioned to neck strap trick where you stretch out the slack from the neckstrap, and that works pretty good. Definietly stabilizes the shot quite a bit.

Of course a stablizer would be more stable, but it's NOT hard to do a good handheld shot with the 7D. But the neck-strap-handheld trick allows you to move the camera around quicker.

A search here on 'user for the Modo Steady will reveal various opinions on it.

Or if you prefer the short version without the search: it's lousy.
