GH2 Do you agree with this?

GH2 is one of the best DSLR cameras for video work ( especially when it's patched with the FlowMotion hack ), but I would not recommend it for high quality still photography work. It's an OK still photo camera, but any of the Canon or Nikon cameras are better when shooting stills.

The GH3 fixes this, and excels at both still photos and video. If you can afford it, this is the camera to get.

im not sure id put a lot of store in a review that said things like "for that film look"
the gh2 will be an all around more "pro" camera - though there are always going to ge things one camera is better at than another...

plus gh2s are going for $499 now at most authorized dealers.

though like dingo said. if you can spring for a GH3 you'll get batter all around performance...

I agree. With the GH3 you get a better stills camera and one that gets pretty close to hacked quality without hacking.

Yes, that's what I saw this morning in Amazon. Was really shocked to see it was down to $499 from $649 about 3 weeks ago. I'll post my manual lens later since I don't know what converter/adapter I need to buy.

Definitely I will hack this GH2 like what I did with my Canon 50D.

Thanks folks!

GH2 for sure. Easy to hack, more glass options, etc, etc.... Most of the big cams (expensive cams) won't use an NEX7 to compare to, they always aim high and compare to gh2 hacked footage.

site like that are absolute rubbish - it's not a comparasion it's just advertising

GH2 at $499 is a beast and a heck of a deal. I personally upgraded to the GH3 for other reasons..... No doubt though for $1300 you could buy a GH2 and a real NICE lens or two.

GH2 = $499
Panasonic 25mm f/1.4 =$499
Olympus 45mm f/1.8 = $399
-------------------------------------
$1397

You can save a couple of dollars and buy the lenses used. GH3 imo is an excellent camera, but the GH2 has an entire community still supporting it as well. Once the GH3 gets hacked though, it's going to be a Game changer........

I own two GH2's and have no intention of upgrading to the GH3, although I'm sure it would be nice... the GH2 still does one hell of a job delivering fine video, also unhacked. Stillswise it has more competition, but will provide you with some fine quality in that department too if you just know how to tickle it... For the price it is a no-brainer. Spend extra money on lenses!

My fealings, but is that test biased like some say, moire and alising are my biggest dislikes and the GH3 wont improve there,it would be nice to do a side by test myself with the sony.

So a hacked GH2 will give you a better image than a GH3? Me and a friend did an outdoor test the other day, we had a really hard time seeing any difference between GH2 and GH3... The only place we really noticed that the GH3 had a far better image was in high ISO's/low light (the GH3 made the GH2 look pretty bad in low light).

The last shot I had with my GH2 was pretty frustrating because of the darn LCD changing exposure/color when pressing record. The HDMI out is even more (if possible) worse since there is a HUGE shift in exposure when pressing record. The only way I found how to work with this was to press record and checking the image, then stop the recording, adjust lights/camera settings and doing the same process over and over again.

This reason alone is enough for me to upgrade...

Like I said, I upgraded to the GH3 for other reasons and this is one of them..... Many people have learned to deal with these flaws and their GH2's, truth is though image is comparable but the GH3 imo functions so much better as a camera.

Those side-by-side sites don't really use criteria that video shooters care about. 24fps is not a measure of the "film look". And where are their comparisons of:

- On screen audio meters?
- Manual audio level control?
- Susceptibility to moire?
- Autofocus in video mode?
- Whether the viewfinder works in video mode or not?
- Max video clip length?

The GH2 is the overall winner in these categories against almost every other camera in its class.

Bottom line: please ignore snapsort - you're buying the absolute best large sensor interchangeable lens camera for video below $1000 - period.

The only comparison site that is worth your time is camerasize.com because it's tough to screw up measurements of physical size and weight :)

Its more like hmmm.. how much margin do a get from my ads on an $1100 camera vs a $500 camera... we have a winner.

Although their 'reasons to buy' a GH2 are on a professional level of serious testing.....

"flip-out screen (great for movies)"
"touch screen (less buttons)"

I would love to hear how you deal with the issues I menitoned other than the way I do, I hope you have found better ways than mine!

Moire and aliasing are not a problem with the GH2. Noise can be, but if you learn its quirks (and use Neat if necessary) the GH2 will produce stunning quality for the money. You can test and pixel-count to your hearts delight, but in the end the resulting footage in practical use should be judged... no lack of amazing GH2 material on Vimeo/YouTube...
