Put the ini file in the folder ptools is in and make sure there's no other file with "a" at the end of "set". The hacks are named seta or b or c, etc..., up to around h or i. Once you open Ptools it will be in the letter circles at the bottom and make sure you have the current ptools or it probably won't work.

OK - the CARD thing:
The Sandisk Extreme Pro 64G 95mps card IS very expensive...ballpark of $140, but for some reason (Who cares what if you can't change the facts) this is the card that has given the super-testers the LEAST amount of problems. Or the best success, depending on how you look at it.
For some unknown reason the 32G 95mps version of this card has demonstrated more malfunctions in use by the testers. BUmmer...but whatcha gonna do?

Having said that - the Sandisk Extreme "regular" class 10 cards seem to work with "most" patches that don't go for the SUPER-high bit-rates. About 100mps and below, but the patch itself does need to be well written also in order do its part in maintaining write-stability to the card.

Currently I am using the newer v1.1 Panasonic Firmware and have hacked it running LPOWELL's "Flowmotion 2.02" which is his newest patch for the newer Panasonic firmware. This is a pretty high-performance patch and is reported to work in nearly every mode.
I am using the Sandisk Extreme "regular" 16G cards.
My results: This patch has been stable with no errors and plays back in-camera and everything - HOWEVER, I am using a Canon FD 50mm f1.4 lens and NOT either of my 2 Panasonic lenses that both do the auto-focus thing and the "in-lens" sharpening thing that they do. I fear using the "Flowmotion v2.02" patch with the slower Sandisk Extreme cards and the Panasonic lenses might be prone to write errors. I will eventually test this - who knows, maybe it will all work fine with the Panasonic lenses too.

@flinty As one of the "super-testers" (if that title doesn't make you feel self-conscious, I don't know what does) that @DPStewart is referring to, I would like to confirm what he said.

If you look at the data I start compiling in the spanning table at http://perlichtman.com/pasdenapulse/wordpress/gh2-hack-reference/ and I tell you that in my limited experience, the performance of the SanDisk 95MB/s 32GB card was closer to the Delkin 95MB/s 16GB than to the SanDisk 95MB/s 64GB, I can leave you to make your own evaluations.

At this point, if I were going to spend more than $50 on a card, it would have to be the SanDisk 95MB/s 64GB - it does make a noticeable difference.
 
Erm, I know that I'll probably get my head bitten off for asking this, but can someone tell me the best hack to use for 720/50p and 1080/25p. Both in the same hack. Something that is stable, but will still impress my grandma.

I currently had Driftwoods Cluster 4 installed, but it doesn't seem all that stable.
 
@flinty No, it is not the best. If you want stable performance with the most demanding settings and/or spanning, send it back and get the SanDisk 95MB/s 64GB. If you can make do without spanning or without the most demanding settings, the one you ordered should be fine.

With anything less than that, you can only get spanning with much less demanding settings, like SMBU V2.
 
I have been using Sanity5 lately. Haven't had much time to test it out but recorded a 1 and a half hour service this saturday and it spanned 3 three times perfectly fine on I think a transecend or a sandisk class 10. I don't remember. Seems really stable.

That's THE card...with the best reliability.
It will leave you open to using the highest quality and most demanding hacks out there. Do try LPOWELLS Flowmotion V2 until you feel ready to go "bleeding edge" with some of the Driftwood patches like SEDNA and the like. You may find Flowmotion hits the spot for you. You certainly won't regret it.

That's what I meant. I bought these cards so that I could use more demanding patches. Just wanted to know what was the highest quality patch for PAL 720/50p and 1080 24 or 25p...

Having said that about those cards, it does seem that I have managed to buy 2 lemons as they seem to constantly give me error messages or they seem to hang when recording.
 
@Prendi It is really odd that you are encountering those errors and I certainly haven't heard of anyone else getting two lemons in a row of the card.

In regards to the best setting, the problem is that we have seen a LOT of new settings released very recently and it is difficult to know for sure which ones are going to end up being the best. My advice is to start by getting a setting that works and only start worrying about improving quality after that.

The various Crossfire settings seem to be the most popular new ones. I have not used it, but I would start by trying "Crossfire Variation 1: VY Canis Majoris 'Skintone matrix' + Cluster Setting24p/HBR25p GOP1 Canis's 'Skin Tone matrix' meets Cluster v4 GOP3 720p/HBR modes." It seems like the one that would be usable in the widest range of situations.

As for what I have used myself, Sedna, Mysteron and Canis Majoris Night (for lowlight or night shots or shoots without much blue) would be my most frequent choices.

Glad to hear you're having good results with Flow Motion v2.02, as it is designed to work reliably with standard 30MB/sec Class 10 SD cards. For others interested in this patch, here's the link:

I tested FM v2.02 thoroughly with Panasonic Lumix lenses as well as manual lenses. In all cases but one, it worked just as reliably with auto-focus lenses and auto-exposure modes as with manual-focus lenses. The only exception where you may encounter recording issues is when using auto-exposure features in Flow Motion's 100Mbps 720p SH mode. For absolute reliability with Lumix auto-focus lenses in 720p mode, I recommend using "H" video mode. Aside from its peak bitrate being safely limited to 60Mbps, FM2's H mode works exactly the same as SH mode, and produces excellent results with just a notch tighter compression.
 
I'm a new GH2 owner slowly sifting through the mountains of information about hacking for better quality. Rather than try and piece together what I'm looking for, I thought I'd give asking for the information a shot.

There are three things I must have in a patch.

1. Reliability. The camera absolutely has to work every single time. A lot of my work are event shoots, where you don't get a second chance.
2. Spanning in all modes. Again with event work, I need a hack that will span and not just stop recording. (I use only SanDisk Extreme Pro 95 MB/s cards)
3. In camera playback. I do some production shoots as well, and the client often wants to see clips played back. I hear that Cake 2.3 offers both 1 and 2 above (along with pretty good quality), so I gave it a try, but Cake doesn't seem to offer in-camera playback of clips.

So...does anyone have any experience with a hack that can offer me all three?
