Do clients recognize/accept NX1 for gigs?

a quick follow up question: any recommended SDXC cards? I'm looking to do 128 or 256GB just because I'm gonna be shooting a bunch of bands at SXSW this year and dont want to worry too much about swapping out cards during the day. I've used sandisk in the past but they get a bit pricey at that range-- anyone have good experiences on the NX1 for DCI 4K and/or 120fps 1080 with these PNY cards? http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Elite-Per...TF8&qid=1453711058&sr=1-1&keywords=256gb+sdxc

I have the SanDisk Extreme Pro SD Cards. After looking at cameramemoryspeed.com, they looked like the fastest cards in just about every camera.

The older Lexar x1066 UHS 1 that were close in speed seem to have disappeared. The more affordable Lexar 1000x UHS II seem to be only half the speed of the SanDisk Extreme Pro.

The Lexar 2000x UHS II are faster, but they are also way more expensive.

I have a Samsung NX500 that I have been testing. The NX1 looks interesting, but I am worried about the depreciation on the 16-50 S and 50-150 S lenses after a few years. Did you go with the Samsung lenses?

Good luck!

One comment on the NX1 and right-camera-for-the-job… if you're doing a gig that requires high DR (for me that would be resorts/golf courses, high-end real estate) I'd consider a raw camera.

I keep going back on forth on it, but I think there's a BMC (not the pocket) with a speedbooster in my future. Really gorgeous image. The digital Bolex is impressive as well, but much pricier and I'm not into the small sensor personally.

I don't see myself going back to the original BM, it's too awkward and heavy and the sensor is too small. But the 4.6K sensor is awesome, if they put that on a small body and sell it for $3K then I'm definitely on board.

Problems with BM for me is that the cheap price is really 'cheap' like a new raven 4k is 'cheap'. sure the body is affordable but you gotta kit them out a lot more than a DSLR. personally i like the red workflow better than the BM but my buddy has a 4.6 on pre order so maybe that will change when i try it out.

I've just started looking for a matte box for my NX-1. What brand is the one you have there in the pic? Also what ND filters are you using?

not sure if you're asking me or someone else, but if me, the fotoga dp3000 is the matte box.
i haven't gotten any ND's yet. I had an ND throttle lens mount on my a7s, but since switching to the nx1 and PL mount, I have been on the look out for 4x4 NDs or Polas, but havn't pulled the trigger on any yet.

Yep, I was asking you. Thanks for the info.

Hey y'all, on the verge of getting a new cam, most likely getting the NX1-- my only hesitation is, I'm full time freelance, and I'm worried about not getting gigs based on a lack of recognition of the NX1 in the gear listing. I know this sounds like a ridiculous fear, but some clients are stubborn about what kinds of cameras they want. Have you found clients are pretty open to using the NX1, and if not, how do you sway them on it? The only alternative in my price range would be getting a substantially used a7s for a significantly higher cost (and im not a big fan of sony's color science, having previously used an a6000)

I was looking at the NX1 for 6 months but decided the files not the camera could cause problems in production and they would have. First job the files were edited by another editor and they were using a 5Dmk3. I got a panasonic G7 to test the waters and the editor had trouble using those 4K mp4 files. They finally got it but had they been H-265 files it wouldn't have worked. The Nx1 looks like a great stand alone system but that means limited lens choices and adapters. The G7 is a great camera and subjective when looking at color. I don't really get the complaints, but that's a personal choice, If you are looking for ultimate dynamic range none of these cameras will give you what you need which is raw anyway. I just liked the over all versatility of the Panasonic M43 for the moment to have 4K for a rock bottom price as the new cameras keep coming. If something else is released next month, I'm not in so deep I can't try the next new option. Just me.

The alternative would be a G7 with a speedbooster to stay in the same budget, which I find deeply unappealing t b h-- it seems to have so much less dynamic range and i hate panasonic's colors.

Don't take this the wrong way, but can you show me an example of what sucks so bad about the Panasonic color. I've shot a number of projects with the G7 and I can grade the color about the same as any Canon or Sony camera. I'm not the only person shooting Panasonic in the world so is the color just a personal dislike or is there really something wrong with it.

For example here is a post on the Red Dragon vs G7, what's wrong with the color, I can't even tell what was shot with the Red or the G7?

Oh I know-- with proper grading the G7 can hold up v. well, and since all my glass is Nikon F-mount, I'll probably get one as a new B-Cam in a year or two. But for me, I do have a decent number of gigs that are more run-and-gun, and need a super quick turnaround-- sometimes same-day edits even. The OOC colors on the NX1 (which i ended up getting) for me were miles better than panasonic's for my personal preferences. Moreover, while both the NX1 and GH4/G7 are super sharp, I find that sharpness way less distracting on the nx1 for some reason.

It's definitely just a personal preference thing though-- the panasonic cams are great.

OK thanks that's good to know.
On turnaround time I'm finding the 4K G7 files easy to work with. I'm editing a final cut sitting at Starbucks right now on my laptop with CS6 and it's almost as fast as HD was. For grading I have a large selection of stacked presets which get's me close to what I need for grading with one click. I do like the NX1 but just went a different direction for now. The G7 does kick some ass for a $700 camera

Oh yeah, for the price point its unbeatable. I would've gone with it, but I got a good deal on a used NX1 bundle from a wonderful person on here
