DL DVD/8gb P2 burn times

Depending on speed of media, how long would it take to burn a full 8gb card to a double layer DVD on my Powerbook?

I did a test shortly after I got my PB G4 1.67 (latest version) with some audio project files (about 8 GB, but consisting of at least several hundred files of various sizes), and I remember it taking quite a bit longer than 40 minutes to burn and verify. Perhaps it was due to the large number of files (as opposed to a full 8 GB P2 card, which might only contain a couple dozen), but I seem to recall it taking well over an hour.

A 40 minute burn of a full 8GB card would probably be quite manageable on most film shoots where at least two cards are available. I did a shoot recently as an actor (HVX/8GB P2s/720/24PN) and they went for at least a couple of hours between card swaps, with lighting setups, rehearsal takes etc. slowing the pace.

With a P2-to-hard drive dump taking about 8 minutes and a DL DVD burn taking 40, you'd be pretty set at the end of the day with BOTH an edit-ready hard drive copy and a DVD backup. Sweet...

can any one tell me if I can mix the 1080i from the card reader with dcam footage shot in the timeline of FCP or is it one or the other ? example wraps and talking heads in HD P2 card and action footage in DV tape... sorry just bought the camera and card reader and hope I made the right descion?

Mike,
My PB superdrive is 8x; does Lightscribe burn DL at 10x ? Are you using a desktop machine or laptop. I need to archive P2 files onto DVD to handoff to clients in the field.

thanks,

monkey,
FYI: remember to burn a data disc that can be read by window users. Mac discs by default are unreadable by PC.

The slot-loading superdrives in Powerbooks are rated at the highest speed they can manage for single layer media. At the time the Powerbooks were discontinued, there were no 10x, 8x, or even 6x DVD-R DL slot loading drives. Many of the PB drives could only do 2x, or 2.4x on DL media. That would explain the difference between 40 mins (which I got regularly on my DL drive) and 33 minutes.
