Grime I believe it does!

Howard

I might order one to try them out and evaluate the difference. I am curious. Although first thing first is to get 4 more bolts to secure down the carriage as I am currently having a problem where during transport, I think the carriage gets knocked around a little bit and the pieces rotate ever so slightly. Many times I just don't have the time on a shoot to reset them and end up just not using the slider.

That said, I still love the slider. Just used it in a music video.

Well the Pacific Bearing is one piece no screws to loosen. As I mentioned earlier they ok the use of 3 in 1 oil but never use wd 40.... I have found when I appily the oil it gets very very quiet.

I'd appreciate it if we can keep the focus of this thread on igus products and not cloud it with all the other brands out there. Thanks in advance for respecting my request. You can always start another thread, it's a free country.

Now if you really want to support the US...buy your slider from me....yes, the parts come from igus, but each and every ZazaSlider is built by hand with TLC by yours truly. Even the feet I designed, prototyped and fabricated are polished & assembled by me to assure a high level of quality, afforability (although most DIYer's are broke anyways) and functionality (now I'm starting to sound like that Dyson guy...LOL).

So, again, thanks for the kind comments and please don't take my comments the wrong way. To each their own...and I own ZazaSlider.com, which proudly uses igus parts.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Cheers to all & happy sliding.

The title of this thread is "DIY IndieSlider" not "Buy Igus Products"... So I would think that any slder info or comparisons would be and should be fair game and a valuable resource to everyone... in fairness to all. Yes, because it is a free country and thread about IndieSlider alternatives...

Now don't get me wrong.. it is very appreciated what you started with the slider thread. But what was once started as a great DIY thread has turned into a commercial enterprise promoting Igus products and your own, It seems you are also trying to censor the thread now... You have gradually turned it into your own personal running commercial for ZAZA Slider and Igus.... maybe the moderators should consider putting this thread in the commercial advertising section where it belongs now... I understand you have become a commercial sponsor, and we all wish you success.

I don't see what the problem is with people bringing up other alternatives and products for a "DIY IndieSlider" thread. Or. maybe the thread name needs to be changed to a more appropriate one if only ZAZA and Igus are allowed to be mentioned...

I do thank you and everyone else for all of your contributions. They have have helped a lot of us folks:)

Hey Tommy, I'm not trying to 'censor' the thread...just trying to keep it focused. From the very first post, this has always been about a slider built using igus parts. Their part numbers and phone numbers are in the first lines of the first post started a couple years ago. I researched many others, but the 'bang for the buck' (IMHO) was in using igus stuff.

Since starting this thread, I've tried to keep it up to date and answered countless questions here, as well as in PM's and direct emails. If the focus shifts, I won't be able answer those questions about products & methods I have no knowledge of. I don't see why it would be such a big deal for anyone with another design to start and maintain a thread of their own that lists company names, part numbers, costs and a step-by-step instructional of the building process.

The title was just off the cuff when I discovered that many other manufacturers were using igus products in the construction of their sliders...and that they would sell directly to us independent filmmakers at a substantial savings. Someone during the evolution of the thread coined the phrase "ZazaSlider"...it wasn't me. I had no idea this thread would have taken-off like it did & I'm glad hundreds of people all over the world have benefited from it. Maybe it would be a good idea to change the name of the thread? ...or even move it?

Commercial venture...well, kind of. In trying to come up with a better solution for end-stops and low shots (I wanted something better than the wooden blocks I originally posted)...and something better than what others where offering. I spent the time and money designing, developing and fabricating the ZazaSlider feet. I just wanted to share (what I thnk is) a better solution for any one who built their own slider or have a Glidetrack, etc. Wanting to be on the up & up, I contacted DVXuser and was told I had to become a sponsor...which is fine.... and here we are.

So, there you have it... I apoligize if I've offened anyone, I assure you I never meant to. My only goal was to share information and give back to the really cool community of talented filmmakers here at DVXuser.

Best to all and Happy Sliding,
-Zaza

For most of us Zaza, no apology needed, you've done us all a big service making our videos better with this DIY slider and the advice and instructions from this forum.
My original post from several day ago still rings true..............

"What's up with the pissing match going on here about PBC or Igus?? I don't give a f**k about it.
I think 95% of us that found this forum on sliders and visit it often, care about making a good slider that are cheap versus spending mega $$$ on one.
Honestly, use whatever you want as a slider, just stick to posting your slider pictures, advice, videos etc and put your di*ks or egos away about the other stuff. Stick to the point of sharing so we can all get better and do better video!!

Zaza started this forum on sliders so I went with his build and the advice from others that built one as well. The PBC slider is really nice as well but it was late to the slider party here and all the smack talk going on isn't helping sell it.

This is the whole point of my last post... I for one, don't have a horse in this race. All slider info should be welcomed and deemed as relevant as ZAZA's or the next guys preference... I've seen multiple threads where ZAZA has told people not to post info about anything but Igus... I have been following this thread since day one and as an indie producer it has helped me a lot... For which I am thankful. Keep the info and comparisons freely flowing. It benefits everyone. If all the comparisons lead someone back to Igus... great. But let everyone decide what's best for themselves. There probably should be two different threads..

same here but you have meet beat, I've been following it for the past 3 months. At 220 pages it's a lot and I must have missed that thread where Zaza yold people not to post anything but Igus.

If the PBC does get it's own thread I'll follow it as well, like the carriage in some of the pictures and would be curious to read and see feedback on it. Like you believe and I said, it's all about sharing, learning and producing great video no matter the product or name :-)

Eric

Just passing along some info, Igus drilled and tapped my rail and carriage for $15 or so. I just tapped the ends for the Home Depot end stoppers and must say it was kind of a pain. Spent $12 on the tap and bit and about an hour tapping the ends. Not sure how much Igus would charge but it it's less than $20 I would recommend it as that's an hour saved that you could be practicing with your new slider.

Also ZaZa, your info has been a tremendous help and I may eventually buy the Zaza feet and help put some money in your pocket, but I would like to at least donate a few bucks for the great info. Possibly put up a donate button on your site? Surely folks here would contribute a buck or five for all the free help you're providing. Many thanks.

I received my ZazaSlider Feet, and i have to say WOW. Very impressed with the quality. Since i only tapped one hole at each end of my slider for my particular end-stop solution, i have to run out later and buy a new tap-n-die set, as i've lost the one i had. I can't wait to start using it. If you currently have the holes tapped at both ends, these things are ready to use!

footage will be coming soon.

DIY Video.

DIY Video.

Here is the video I shot while assembling my ZaZa style slider. This is the 20-80 rail and not the 16-60. The principals will be the same. I ended up using two tripods to support this rail since my light stands were not stable enough.

If you have any questions or comments I'm open to them.

You are right, I got mixed up because theorder number for the 150, carriage is 15.

ZaZa, do your feet fit on the 20-80 rails?

No worries... just something I noticed. It's the same with the 100mm (just a 10 in the part number).

I'd also like to point out that the line on the carriage top runs directly down the center of the carriage. If you use that line & drill from the top, all you have to do is measure half the carriage length, mark and drill...it will be exactly in the middle that way everytime!

Also, get yourself some cutting oil at Home Depot and use a few drops on the tap... it makes life MUCH easier (and extends the life of the tap). Remember, 1/2 turn in, 1/2 turn back out, repeat...that makes the best & strongest threads.

Yes, you'd just have to drill the holes 80mm on center. The feet come pre-drilled for 16-60mm and 10-40mm. I'm thinking of a redesign of the center bar that would just be one long slot and allow for any width rail.

I designed the feet so they will not only work on any igus-based slider out there (Glidetrack, etc.), but allow the DIYer to easily modify them for any need they may have.

Again, great job on the video!
