DIY IndieSlider...

I've said this a thousand times... this stuff is tough...there is NO flex at all in the track (1000mm).

Yup -- I just read the whole thread top to bottom, so I saw the photo several times (In the very pink setting) , and I'm pretty sure I could calibrate the bearings in my sleep now, even though I've never seen them in person. I have my forum preferences set to 40 posts per page, so it's /only/ a 17 page thread for me. :D

That sounds great then. I'm bummed that I've lost my excuse to buy a monopod, but with the $$ saved on the DIY I just might be able to justify giving the Zazaslider it's own bowl, or something along those lines. Stay tuned...

(oh look at that, the glidetrack ad is at the top of this page. How ironic...unless we're talking gmail of course, then you're upset if the ads you see are unrelated to what you're talking about)

The " Very Pink" wasn't mine.... you can see mine here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.php?p=1660614&postcount=602 (post #602)

You can still buy a monopod. They are great to have around & make one hell of a walking stick!

I use (and would recommend) the Kessler 100mm bowl adapter I use. It's solid and adds a nice weight to the carriage for nice smooth slides. I always slide holding that piece, nice and low to the carriage.

Enjoy!

...And How to use a 100mm bowl tripod head (sachtler)?
what kind of adapter use?
thanks

Here... this should help!

Ordered my stuff today having been keeping an eye on this thread for awhile. Hoping to get it by next week.

I read a lot of this thread but it's so long, so I hope this question isn't redundant. What is the weight of the slider itself? I'm going to use mine with a Canon 5D Mark II and a short, wide-angle lens and hiking with it on multi-day trips in the wilds. I will hopefully be mounting it on my still camera tripod, which weighs only 3 lbs. I need something light and short, 2-3' is fine, but light is key. How heavy are these things?

Will do... I mean won't do... whatever, I confuse myself!

Buy the way Zeph, how is your creation coming along? I thought that was a very good idea? Any advancements on it?

Which one? I Have 4 project going on at the same time. Slider? Just what I posted elsewhere here plus a modification of the bearings. That?

Someone please shoot me an e-mail reminder by no later than July 14th. I'm crazy busy but owe you all results of my bearings MOD.

It not heavy at all...but I'll be glad to weigh it tomorrow...standby.....
(this will be the 1000mm rail and carriage)

I remember reading somewhere in this thread someone made a nice short one, about 2' I think, just for this reason.

O.K., I just called igus to get the shipping weight of 1000mm of rail and the carriage (the exact order I received). With packing (the box and protective wraps) it weighed 9.11 lbs.
I'm going to guess the box and packing materials were about 2 lbs... leaving us at about 7.5lbs.

So, yes... I'd guess that 39" of the 16mm rail and a 100mm carriage (glide blocks & bearings) would weigh 7 to 7.5 lbs. Now you'd just have to figure the weight of a head...or you could just mount the camera directly to the carriage.

You could also look into the 10mm rail, that would be lighter yet and I'm sure it would have no problem supporting the Canon 5D II.

Hope this helps....

Geez with all the press and adoration IGUS is getting, I should go take a picture of their building, print them and sell enlargements to you folks.....ONLY KIDDING! Seriously though, I could drive by their building in about two minutes. Problably have driven by the building for 10-12 years and always wondered what the heck IGUS was..Now I know.

Hey a while back i made a 'zaza slider' with some modifications to fit on my 1/4" velbon thread. I just never got round to show pictures or footage, but here is a short film i shot recently where i used it extensively cause i love it so much :) Oh and credit goes to this awesome thread!

Ok I'm going to be dense again for a moment here.

I have neither the head yet, nor the IndieSlider parts. Planning to order both next week.

Somebody here posted that they could *not* make this work with a Libec H22 head. I'm wondering if you all can help me figure out a way to make that work, because that's exactly the head I am planning to buy.

The Libec head is designed to work in a bowl, so it has a big bolt coming out of it to attach to the handle.

So...just tap the carriage and bolt the head on (Instead of putting a bolt into the carriage?)

Here's a link to a exploded view of the Libec head.

Libec Head

I ask because I can only afford 1 head right now! If the Libec can't work with the slider than I'll get a 701HDV for now, and then get a Libec some day in the future.

(and it seems like somebody else was having a similar problem...but without really realizing what their problem was, I just read through their posts thinking I understood...when really I'm CLUELESS!)

From the looks of it the problem is that the bolt coming out of the Libec head is too long. I don't remember how, or if the other person came up with a fix. I know the thread is long, but if you go through it from the top, I'm pretty sure that post was in the first half.

Other than that, I'd pick-up a cheaper head just for the slider. I thought I was someone selling a 701 here for like $45? Or check eBay and pick something up cheap.

Just got mine a few days ago, two weeks earlier than they told me to expect it. Was a pleasant suprise to say the least! And this thing is so solid, it'll last forever.

Zaza, I know you mentioned yours didn't make any sound when you slid the carriage, did you have to do anything special to get it that way? I loosened the carriage bolts and aligned the bearings but there is still a noticible dragging sound from the bearings sliding on the rail. Any ideas?
