all over sudden i am starting to get this red font error on my camera. The last 3 events I had nothing but errors on brand new tapes. At the beginning of the tape is where most of it happens.

I have either eject the tape or fast forward so i get a new spot. Got the camera more than 1year ago, do i need to have something maintained in the tape heads? Only using one brand type, TDK.

What do you all think?

no i have not done that yet. Just been using the camera till yesterday. I got the message like 4times yesterday. I hated reshooting a scene because of the error.

i cannot playback anymore!!! its like its chewing on the tapes. I clicked the switch on the side of the tape and opened and the tape had been eaten. I piece of the tape is missing!!!

Whats happening to my camera!!! help!

A bug has probably crawled inside your camera and fouled the tape path.

Generally speaking though, if you've been using your camcorder for over a year you really need to run a cleaning tape through it!

I do not think any bugs can find their way inside my camera. I always put my camera inside my bag before storing into the clothes closet. I just ran a tape cleaner, the tape looks like clothes piece. Thats how its supposed to look like?

I am going to test the tape that was not working earlier for capturing otherwise i need to re-capture.

no capture possible, in fact I was not able to see anything on the lcd(vcr mode). Its like the tape is completely empty. How much do out of warranty repairs cost nowadays? Got the camera in Jan. 2007

I've only ever had problems with one brand of tape and that just happens to be TDK. It didn't get eaten but I had dropouts galore. Ran a cleaning tape through it, never used TDK again, problem solved! Hope you get it figured out and hopefully my situation helps you with yours.
