Dirt

Hey, some of the BEST westerns had rain in them! Open Range, Tombstone, Unforgiven and YOURS!!!

Now quit yer cryin and git out there and start filming!!!

Don't make me come to Florida and face that humidy again!!:violent5:

Haha, the issue isn't the rain exactly. Its something that the rain would do #1: to the action in the script and #2: to something in the film that can't handle it whatsoever. But I have a backup plan, and it just might work..

We shot in the pouring rain in MN a few weeks ago.....we had a canopy over our gear and the actors didn't complain too much....however if you are already out in the rain i suggest just dealing with it and not rushing the production.......we rushed it and our 1 day shoot turned into a 3 day shoot with pickups and reshoots of certain parts.

thetvirus- oi vey... I will keep that in mind. Yeah, well I think I've got a workaround planned (and it involves a canopy)...so we'll see what happens.

The movie is called DIRT, not MUD. I get why you can't shoot in the rain. :)

Good luck. Hope the weather clears up for you.

Haha. That difference is actually one of the reasons why (not for the titles sake but because of how the title plays into the action of the script). The workaround is looking like its going to work. My current shoot dates at July 1st-3rd... about 4 hours of shooting each day. Met with the production designer today, Tess Olson, briefly to go over her sketches and costume plans...and also to give her some spending/working money to make them over the next week.

In other news, we have a full-time BTS director on this particular film- David J. Dodd... who will be editing together a 5 minute behind-the-scenes on everything that we did to make "DIRT." He's doing it as a piece for his own portfolio so it should come out looking quite superb. We'll post clips of it here as they become available.

Got a crap load done yesterday! Got all of the remaining props, costumes are nearly done... location is nearly not an issue any more...and I had a short pre-rehearsal with one of the leads (and I found my cowboy hat finally). Yeehah! 3 hour rehearsal tomorrow and then shooting on Thursday-Saturday!

Oh, and I've got a little secondary footage thats getting shot today :D Maybe some grabs later?

Yeehah!

Got SO much done yesterday. Did all of the location work (except for one little bit that I have to wait for Tuesday to do because of the equipment being in the mail) with the help of 2 of my friends. We were quite DIRTy and tired by the end of the day. In fact, we did so much work yesterday on the preproduction that all thats left is finishing up bits of the costumes, building one "set piece" (if you can call it that), and the rehearsal...which is taking place today from 1:30 to 4. Nearly 3 hours of rehearsal for a 6 minute movie... hopefully it will make it so we can get the takes faster on Thursday-Saturday so we're not in the sun all day.

So close. Getting so good. More secondary footage being shot today on location. Maybe some grabs soon? Not sure.

Production update:

So... today was supposed to be the last day of pre-production...as we start shooting tomorrow. It rained ALL day today..so that screwed up the time table a bit. Now I just have to get up earlier tomorrow and hopefully put the finishing touches on some things before shooting actually starts tomorrow afternoon. Here we go!

Just finished up the first day of shooting. A four hour shoot that started off pretty hectic because one of our costumes didn't fit at ALL... so I had to run out and get another one in 30 minutes. Everything went well... lots of sweat and dirt. Screen grabs coming soon. 2 more four hour days!

ZazaCast- Thanks! They're really rough right now.

Update: Just finished our second 5 hour shoot. Went FAN-TAS-TIC! Shots today are looking even better than yesterday. Yesterday we got a total of 3 shots (in 5 hours... yeah...I know...but they're the three most important shots of the film). Today we got about 15-18 shots... the bulk of the movie. Tomorrow we have the remaining 8 shots. Thankfully they are interior shots...finally out of the dirt and florida sun! More grabs later
