Difference between output from SDI-A/B vs. SDI

Nate, would the second and apparently separate processor actually be powered down when the Dual-Link is turned off on the Video-Set menu? I've noticed the camera uses a lot more power if I enable Dual-Link A for the recorder rather than using SDI.

The second one looks like it has a LUT turned on.

No LUT (I'm pretty sure - is there any way to double check in metadata?). If you look at graded vs. S-Log for the PIX they are markedly different. It is really in contrast between the 444 feed vs the 422.

I would then say the Cinedeck's 422 internal conversion from a 444 input is in question. I think it looks like a LUT as well.

Someone needs to do a specific test with only one recorder and the exact same view. I'm doing auditions tomorrow, so no time.

I think you have it backwards. It's the PIX 240 that looks like it has a LUT (but, as I said, it doesn't). I also own the Vortex media files and I see the same thing there -- SLog files seem flatter from 444 output (although the Cinedeck files are only 444 not 422 so too many variables changed at once).

Anyway, definitely need more testing, but I no longer have the recorders (in fact, am trying to figure out which one to buy!)

Anyone who can do this would be much appreciated.

Do you know the values of the grey scale - that would tell you if you had a LUT on. If not is it possible that the Cinedeck is adding 7.5 set-up to the signal?
If there truly isn't a LUT on the PIX and both recorders are getting the full sLog range on the recording the n the cinedeck is not necessarily superior because its flatter. My guess would be the opposite since the Pix would be spreading the exposure of a wider range of values. It is weird though.

I wouldn't be so fast to call this a "huge discovery". I wouldn't call it a discovery at all.

I've done my own testing today with my F3 running firmware 1.3 and my Samurai set for ProRes HQ
There is no visible difference whatsoever between the output of SDI "A" and the regular SDI port.
Even at 800% magnifcation you cannot see a split-screen moving wipe.

I've done my own testing today with a PIX240 recording ProRes HQ. Even magnifying the pictures by a huge amount, I can't detect any difference between Dual-Link A and SDI outputs. To be honest, I'm quite glad because so many of my broadcast clients still want interlaced pictures, which of course you can't get out of Dual-Link A.
