difference between a shockmount and a clip

Shock mount helps isolate handling noise, absolutely *essential* if you want to have a hope at using the sound from it.

You might as well use something that will actually work. The Rycote lyre mounts are usually considered the best around for isolating the mic from your handling noise.

That said, you know that mounting a mic on a camera is about the worst possible location for a mic, yes?

Shock mounts are absolutely critical for anything that moves. I don't know that it matters which one you get, considering the circumstances. It might be better to use your cash to hire a friend to hold a boom for you. Always seriously consider the necessity of camera mounting.

Really, that Azden should be fine at less than half the price. As long as the mic is fully isolated by elastic, you shouldn't get noise. And it's B&H so you can return it.

Keep in mind there are times you simply have to have a mic on the camera - events or synch sound uses. Particularly event shooting - even if I plan to have music be the main audio, there have been scores of times over the years where I ride-up some event sound - cheering, someone laughing, kids making those happy squeals, whatever - sometimes that really makes the edit and usually an on-camera mic can capture those things just fine. I don't take a boom op to an event shoot unless we're doing walk-up interviews.
