Delivering content shot in HD

Most clients don't have an HD-DVD or Blu Ray player yet... do I just export to a 720x480 anamorphic quicktime file in this case? How much better does it look since it was shot in HD?

If I want to deliver HD and they have an HD tv set, and the finished product is only a few minutes long, can I put HD video on a normal DVD? Why or why not?

All you are creating is a data DVD with a DVCProHD movie on it.

Something HAS to play it. The DVD set top won't and neither will the TV.

Currently, other than your cam being connected to the component inputs, HD DVD set top or blu ray are the only feasible alternatives.

But I've seen the quality, and I'm not impressed

Remember that the Apple TV does not deliver DVCProHD footage natively.

HD DVD and BlueRay don´t either, I suppose, at least as a delivery format for standalones...
Also IMO, the easyness of simply attaching eg an appleTV to a HDTV will satisfy clients needs more than maximum quality.

Anecdotally, the comcast boys viewed our HD DVD h.264 footage via a Toshiba A1 on a Pioneer Elite plasma and a Samsung LCD via HDMI.

They thought it looked much better than Comcast HD broadcasts.

This was 720/24p encoded to 10.3 mbps HD DVDs red laser dye discs.

But it won't satisfy mine. Have you viewed Apple TV footage? I am not impressed and I'm huge twenty year user of Apple stuff.

I have, and yes, the quality was only so so.
Still it is a cheap and easy way to get HD content to HDTVs and this counts for many clients...

Cheap and easy?

Don't you have to encode it to h.264 first?

And if you do that for HD DVD, although you need is a $220.00 Toshiba HD A1. And it looks so much better.

How is it either cheap or easier that HD DVD encoding?
