Data loss

I just found out that one of my backup harddrives a WD Scorpio 320 GB 2.5" disc, is broken: it will mount sometimes but makes nasty noise, clicking and stops copying after some 200mb.....tried all evening.....this is my only backup, I know" dual backup" but its the last of my 5 discs and all other files are double backed except this....what sort of data recovery options do people know here?

I am willing to spend some bux on the recovery, its a doc I filmed the last 2 months in India.
The WD Scorpio most of the times wouldnt even mount, I got it to mount finally but copying? nope.....

If I cant get this disc to be rescued, I will have to fly over to India again ( 800 $ min) so I am interested in any data recovery below that price....any tips?

experience with some serious data rescuers?

Be careful!!!

I wouldn't use the drive anymore, certainly not with Spinrite. A wonderful program, but to be used with care and probably not what you need.

If you truly value your data and don't want to risk it, use professional services like ontrack (recommended). If you want to risk it trying to save it yourself, use some of ontrack home recovery software and give it a shot. But you can make it worse than it already is rather than better, so it is your call.

Ontrack are recognized as one of the best in the industry, but of course there are other professional data recovery companies around. My experience with them for the past 25 years have been perfect record of recovery and fast service for a fair price.

It all depends on how truly important the data is to you. If you don't mind the possibility of making it worse and more expensive to recover it (or even impossible to recover, although this is in extreme circunstances), then you can attempt to recover it yourself with the help of specialized software. I've had many (100%?) success rate that way with software such as ontrack or spinrite, i.e.

But some (not all) of those softwares, if you don't know what you are doing, can make matters much worse (or even erase your drive beyond recovery if you chose wrong options). So be careful and patient.

If you want little ("zero") risk of losing data, stop using the drive and ship it out to a recovery company. If you think some risk is acceptable and that you can always ship it out as a last option, use some of the specialized data recovery software around and you have a fair chance of getting the stuff back and save some money. But at some risk.

Some of very good software shown above for data recovery but i had faced the similar problem not exactly same but something like that. Then one of my friend suggest me stellar phoenix data recovery software which works quit nice and recover almost all of my data .I suggest you to try demo version of that software.

Cheers..
