D90 Stair-Stepping Removal

Hey guys, I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 to do my editing and I'm unsure how to export my completed edit into a lossless/ideal format for Adobe After Effects to stair step fix it.

What do I do?
Do I go into File\ Export\ Adobe Media Encoder?
And what settings?

Thanks alot :)

I also wanted to point out that while I was working on this, I used the "magic numbers" provided by buildyo on page 4 of this thread. This really helped, but I did find two spots in the sequence where I needed to switch a 9 and an 8 to get the best results. Here is my sequence:

7,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,9,9,9,8,9,9,7

Thanks for correcting the Magic Numbers. When the user "buildyo" (=me) tried to upload an updated version of the diplacement map file using cgipros numbers he saw this:

You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.
Date the ban will be lifted: Never

As user "bannedone" I just tried again (the file is 56kB large) with the result to get banned again. I'm sorry I'm no longer able to delete my 5 posts above.

Here's the updated displacementmap file:

I never got a reply by the administrator and I don't feel welcome in this forum any longer. Good luck with the D90.

ok, so here it is for fcp. it renders in realtime. it's also part of my tmts plugin pack.

That is great, great work. Thanks a lot. I just tried it and it works like magic!
Now I'm going to dive into your code to learn FXScript. :dankk2: for making it available.

Does anyone have any solid example footage (decent light, etc) with this done?

I use FCP so I can't do it and I have no idea what the script above applies to. LOL

Rolly -- That Merlin is sick with the d90.

cool. if you wanna learn here's what it does:

i create an empty buffer that i fill with zero alpha (you'll see why later).

the for loop copies the bands from the source into this buffer according to the heights in the magic numbers array, leaving one pixel between them (which will still have zero alpha).

i convolve the buffer with a kernel that makes each line a blend of the lines above and below. this is faster than just doing the lines i need since it's a built in accelerated function. the result is placed in a second buffer the same size.

i then matte the first buffer onto it, using the alpha channel. this copies the bands but leaves the blended lines intact.

i then blit the second buffer to the destination. i think this uses bicubic interpolation but it's poorly documented.

done.

an easy adjustment you can try is to low pass/anti alias the second buffer a bit, the fcp scaler doesn't when scaling down (a fact i use to my advantage in my fast deinterlace plugin). i left it out because it's sharper this way even though it can cause some aliasing since the lines become a bit "thinner". the kernel to use is {0,1,0,0,16,0,0,1,0}.

good luck.

well, it's focused on the things i wanted to test, i.e. the railing. had i focused on the guy in front of me the rest would have been blurred, same had i focused on the far background. so no, it's not out of focus. :-)

Allo?

Sorry to repeat my earlier post but I'm really confused as to the best workflow to do the stair step and exporting in the right format etc :(

i thought you could just open your premiere timeline in ae these days? either way you shouldn't do any encoding at all but rather work with the original files.
