D5200 Anyone got it ???

Not yet. I've sent them to a couple of D5200 owners in the last few days but I haven't heard back from any of them yet.
The D7000 was old-gen and behaved differently, but my guess is that on the D5200 they will work at least as good as they do on the D800. It would be awesome if they didn't show the posterized-noise-in-the-shadows issue that the D800 shows when the profile is pushing up too much.

I've tried to contact Nikon to see if they'll lend me a camera for a week to test all of this, but I doubt they'll listen, in Spain they're just an import/export firm. I'm going to call again tomorrow. If that fails, I may buy one at fnac and return it in a couple of days...

That could be very encouraging for Samuel Flaat profile. Because the D800 showed that posterization while the d5200 seems much more clean in the shadows. We could get some very good DR.

With all the d5200 vs 5dmark3 comparison, I would like to ask about sharpness. My real gripe about the 5dmark3 was the softness of the image. When we first talked about the d5200 people where talking about very close to gh2 resolution, now it is all about 5dmark3. I don't mind if at high ISO if it is in the 5d3 level but at lower level it would be a deal breaker for me.

There was a picture profile that they did on a german site that was very flat and very logish type with the D5200 and it looked very good, but it was on youtube, so difficult to make a definite judgement.

I haven't heard back from Nikon either, maybe my Jedi powers are fading. I have an itchy trigger finger on the buy it now button.

At least the FPN is horizontal, much better than the vertical Canon FPN. When you pan the MKIII the FPN is very noticeable, it's like looking at a movie through a dirty windscreen. I noticed a spike in the shadows on the histogram (the FPN), a bit of black crushing seems to squash it without losing too much in the shadows.

I don't recall anyone on any of the 3 forums confirming that the skew is worse on the HDMI out. That would be a deal breaker for me, I wanna hook this puppy up to a Ninja.

But that's not flat, that's inverted-S, a hell of a nightmare to grade!

(I sent them the full Flaat suite, plus the old Flaat_13 which I took away from the suite because the posterized noise in the shadows was unbearable; haven't heard back yet)

This comes from the EOSHD review, "Oddly the rolling shutter skew is worse on the LCD and HDMI output than in the final recording, where I measured it as being around 4-5 degrees more severe than on the GH3, in 25p mode.", plus, macgregor confirmed that the LCD has worse jello than the in-camera recording.

^ Nice! Noisy, but nice!

The noise doesn't look too bad to me. I think with a ninja it should look grainier, a bit more like filmic BMCC noise rather than splotchy compressed noise. I generally don't go higher than 3200 ISO on the MKIII shooting narrative so matching DOF that's 1600 ISO on the D5200 which looks quite good to me.

I don't see much of a pattern noise in the footage. At least at ISO100. I'm very intrigued by that lens cap test that was posted earlier though.

Here is a screenshot of a shot (shot in neutral profile), and the same one with curves applied to make the shadows brighter. Lots of detail! Not much of a pattern noise there (slight horizontal lines if you ask me), and obvious compression artifacts there.

I'll post some more footage later.

I don't think you guys realize about how much detail has been recovered from the shadows here. The 5D or the D800 would only dream of such performance.

It's funny what Nikon have done here; for sure I would have jumped on the 5200 by now, but by hinting at the greatness of the 7100, they've got me in a holding pattern... And I'm easily distracted, so if another idea/product comes along... not a good strategy to get my money!

Oh I do, and it's exactly what's been causing me so much grief trying to shoot low key scenes with the MKIII. What's your first impression on the D5200 vs the big boys, forget the DSLR comparisons (except the 1DC), I think this Toshiba sensor is in another class.

Well, unless you're contemplating buying the 1DC (which s35mm mode is fantastic and I hope it's implemented in every new canon DSLR from now on), the 5200 is the winner to me. But since the 1DC is in another league in terms of price, that comparison is out of the question, right?
What do you want to compare it against? Are there any other $700 cameras out there that offer this quality? Maybe a GH2, if you like the look of the Panasonic. But I feel there's a huge gap now, from $700 to maybe the C100 now, I don't think it makes much sense to spend anything in between...

No, I agree... so far. Just very curious if the 7100 will do it even better. Have a couple of GH2s and the 5dii as well as older full size cameras. I too LOVE shooting lightweight and incognito. Has always been my favorite, and this little cam seems to fit the bill well. Wonder if there is any hope for zebras or peaking in the future, from Nikon or hack.

Yeah I'm not talking price just IQ, DR, colour rendition, and HIGH ISO perf. And yeah I was thinking compared to C100/300, FS700, F3, and 1DC. The thing that's been turning me off all the Canons is the vertical FPN. I've been putting up with it for 4 years and I'm over it.

I just checked out that lens cap test, 1600 ISO looks like a noise sweet spot which is great for me. Interestingly tungsten is cleaner through most ISOs. The 5Ds have always appeared to be more tuned to daylight. It looks like the D5200 has native and pushed ISOs like the Canons.

EDIT: Up to 200 ISO daylight looks cleaner.

I just pulled the trigger. $700 shipped from HK. Should be here between Friday and next Thursday. I was gonna hold out for the D7100 but I'll probably end up selling the MKIII and get a D7100 too if the it doesn't have any moire issues.
