D5000 on Nikon 's Sweden web site

The footage I shot with my cell phone this afternoon looks better than that, lol! Some people should just leave these cameras alone...

due to the now lack of any serious competition , do u think Panasonic will hike the cost of the GH1 up??? unless Canon and Nikon stop wanking about (unlikely) or the GH1 turns out to be not as awesome as we think its gonna be , there will nothing that compares to it and Panasonic will know that!!!! = £$£$£$£$£$£$£$£ ???

Well, no, because what you're proposing doesn't make any real business sense. LoL

That's not how business works, especially large corporations.

Ok people, when discussing these cameras, please remember this:

They're still PRIMARILY still cameras, and a lot of the marketing will still go towards that area.

Which means, Panasonic are not going to shoot themselves in the foot with Nikon and Canon being such big dominant players in this area. Especially when they're on a new system (well, sister system). The price shouldn't go up. Heck, I'm hoping the GH1 will be as cheap as the G1 was in my area (some 20% lower priced on launch compared to the US).

The recommended retail for the D5000 here is $50 (35USD) less than the D90. lol what's the point when you can get a discounted D90 for less.

A poll on nikonrumors suggests that nikon really screwed up big time. 74% of over 2600 people polled said they would never buy one of these. I can't imagine why anybody would. 3% said they'd buy one right away. Wow if that happened every time steve jobs announced a new mac Apple would be out of business in no time. Somebody at Nikon marketing is going to be looking for a new job no doubt. There is a market for this thing however, somebody mentioned it would be useful for taking pics of your feet.

Prior to yesterday's announcement I thought maybe Nikon would improve the d-movie spec and make an AF video lens to really have a crack at the consumer video market and counter the GH1 but unfortunately they're not that smart.

I wanna start shooting in July so here are my options for the film-

2 D90's - with a manual shutter/ISO firmware update (wishful thinking)
GH1 - has to have good low light sensitivity on par with the D90.
D400? - has to have manual controls and a better codec or forget about it.

If the GH1 and/or D400 aren't up to scratch then bugger it I'll just suffer the D90's

If I was being optimistic i might say because the D90 is going to have a major facelift or discontinued and replaced by a far superior model. I have heard some reports of D90's not being in stock here's hoping.

No way the D90 is getting replaced so shortly. It's barely a year old! Nikon's usual product cycle is 2 years.

*sigh* You know what, I might as well respond to this one.

This is an example of a skewed poll. For starters, Nikon Rumours is a Nikon fan site. Guess what type of cameras the fans like? Hint: It's not the low-end ones.

Also, since they're fans, guess what cameras they're already using? Hint: Starts with an "N".

Combine the two and they'll be unlikely to snap this one up.

Oh, you didn't hear? The reason for the reports of the sudden d90 stock shortage is due to the fact that the official Nikon international d90 freight transporter jet bound from Tokyo to the consumers was blasted from the sky last night by a North Korean surface to DSLR missile destroying the freighter and its cargo of 5 million D90s. Some reports suggested that some d90s spontaneously upgraded themselves whilst plummeting earthward, one such mutant landed in a South Korean fishing vessel in the east sea but was immediatley traced by gps (came with the upgrade) and destroyed by laser satellite...well according to nikon rumours anyway.

Staying within the Four-thirds system the Olympus Zuiko 12-60mm f/2.8-4 is probably the most affordable wide/fast lens available. Its around $700-800. In full-frame equivalent it'll be a 24mm F2.8, which is given the focal length is fast enough.

It compares favorably with the its rivals on other mounts like the Zeiss 16-80mm F3.5-4.5 or Nikon 16-85mm F:3.5-5.6. APS-C being 1.5/1.6 crop the 16mm lens will be equivalent to a 24mm f/3.5 on a Nikon system.

There are wider lenses at that price-range like the 8mm Olympus, but you lose half-a-stop.

It should be noted that the micro-four thirds lenses are incredibly ideal for wide-angle lenses due to its short flange focal distance(FFD). Since the popularity of SLR cameras, one of the the biggest hurdles for wide lenses has been increased FFD due to adding a mirror-box assembly. Most wide angle lenses are based off of the original Angénieux retrofocus lens design, the larger flange distance means retrofocal optical schemes had to be used to reduce the back focal distance of the lens to a figure shorter than the focal length.

With the micro-four thirds FFD being an insanely short 20mm, the retrocal optical schemes can be avoided allowing for faster-wider lenses. The 20mm f/1.7 that's already been shown should be just the start.
Whoops, missed this one.

The Zuiko 12-60 is meant for standard 4/3s. I suppose if you don't mind manual focusing it'll be just fine (and I think quite a few here will).

The 20/1.7 is more or less a standard lenes though. Not really wide angle.

Thank's for the script, I start shooting the film 2morro.

Or maybe they just sold out of them because a DSLR with video is really popular???

The noob finds his voice

the same amount of "fans" responded to the D90 poll. 52% said they liked it.

Besides why would anyone pay about the same money for something that looks cheap?
