D500 4k UHD Video Sample (downloadable)

Hi, could you confirm that 4K video has a 2.2 crop factor?

That seems about right. In the second test video you can see it when I switch to 4K in the rolling shutter test. I didn't move the camera closer -- that's just the crop factor. I already own the Tokina 11-20 f/2.8 so the crop doesn't bug me too much ;)

Since there are no other D500 threads, I figure I'll add a quick note to this one.

And the note is that the NDS must have expired on the 6th and a lot of reviews have been uploaded on the 7th. The reviews themselves are generally positive, albeit more geared for photo rather than video. The colors and the ISO performance are good and the workflow in 4K seems to be reasonable as well.

When on You Tube, seek the usual suspects like Tony Northrup and our friends at the Camera Store.

lol - I could see that...don't follow Nikon too much, but was interested in the D500 for a second tho.

He got into a bunch of fights after stating that he was sending back his D5. Naturally, he deleted most of his foes' comments but it spilled over to other channels and so on.

So, it seems that the consensus goes like this - the colors are nice; the 4K crop requires wide/r lenses; the Auto Focus in video mode is ho-hum; flat profile is OK but it ain't Log.

No mentions of the codec.

It seems like Sony cameras (A6300 in particular) with the native Sony glass gives the best auto-focus in video and stills.

D500 is getting rated very highly on stills, including AF. It is receiving OK reviews for video, with the previously mentioned caveats.

I don't use AF when shooting video so that hasn't been an issue for me with the D500. I did just complete a 10 day shoot with the FS7 as primary and D500 as the b-Camera. I used it a lot: shooting under engines, inserted into tires and even for the more mundane secondary closeups during talking bits. It was really a pleasure to work with and since I use a Nikon glass adaptor on my FS7 it was easy to swap lenses around as necessary.

Nikon should have peak for focus and at least zebra for exposure.
ever email tech support at Nikon and ask "So how do I focus when in manual mode?"
