D400 just a rumor

...
These aren't video cameras, these are first and foremost cameras designed to take photographs...

Yep, agreed. But times are changing. I think every big player in the dslr market can't afford to ignore a good video mode in their products. This is the future and they know it. I´m pretty sure about that. But let´s wait + see.

I noticed Amazon/ sellers on Amazon have hiked the price on the D90 body to $999; if you can find it instock that is.

B&H are selling for $929, backordered.

I remember, only 2 weeks ago, the D90 was readily instock and priced at $889.

Yet another (hopeful) sign that the D400 may be the D90 replacement. Or, perhaps, this repricing is in response to the D5000.

No, the prices of Nikon products are rising since january in 3 or 4 steps. This has nothing to do with any replacement. Apropos why should they replace the D90? It´s a product that keeps going well.
It is assumed that in july/august some of us will hold a new D400 in their hands. So I guess the announcement we should see in may.

No really the price went down then back up, then back to the $899 price. Now it is back up again.

all i would need from the D400 to be sold is 1080, less compression, manual mode and lessened skewing. Cause a smaller crop factor would win me over.

Just that? The D400 is becoming sort of like Scarlet, where the heck is it?

I think the jello amount is the most difficult. It is all about the sensor and speed processing. Can Nikon improve it? Lets hope so.

just want them to release it already!!! common!

Im going on a trip at the end of august and i would really like to avoid having to bring my hdv cams.

so its either the GH1 or the D400, or the scarlet.. haha, sorry, had to go for that one.

The D90 would still be a very competitive camera in my opinion if the rumored firmware update is released. Might put me off buying a GH1...

You are right. Plus I'm thinking when people see two cameras side by side and one says Nikon. The other says Lumix, many people will pick the Nikon. I hope they fix the problems, firmware update then a D400.

I've been using Nikons for almost 25 years. I plan to keep doing that. But...but if the GH1 turns out to do the job well and Nikon does no improve on the video end I would think about it.

What is the estimated price for the GH1?

If it is really a mini RED we are talking something different. But I would like mini RED to say Nikon on it. I hope they do something soon.

I guess the GH1 comes with the lens too. At least that is what B & H Photo is showing now.

Surely anyone interested in this type of camera for video purposes would prefer the name Lumix (Panasonic) over Nikon. Panasonic has been a key player in the budget indie film industry and has always seemed to understood and meet the needs of the indie guy.

I'm talking about the normal person walking into Best Buy to get a camera. Nikon just has the name and they will put Ashton Kutcher on a TV ad and they will sell millions.

I would think Nikon would like to improve to help the indie market but the big money is not there. They want to sell cameras and most of the time Nikon sells top of the line cameras. It is not going to take much to get another camera, D400 or whatever that will be as good or better than the GH1. It is just if they want to do it or not.

I'm not ruling anything out yet. The GH1 could have some defect that no one has found.

the only "defect" i see with the GH1 is the 4/3rd factor, with the 2x crop. But if people cvan work around that and find a fast wide lens, then its worth a shot for sure.

but just to have an equivalent wide lens for the GH1, or at least a 24mm and 35mm, we're looking at needing a fast 12mm lens and fast 18 mm lens!!!! going to cost a fortune!

The GH1 is looking pretty good but since I'm still saving some money for my next camera I'll give Nikon more time to produce the D400 or something.

For me there´s no hurry. The GH1 gonna hit the sales floor earliest at the beginning of june. Until then hopefully Nikon announces the D400 with specs - maybe even 2 new cams.
Definitely, the GH1 will be the first choice if Nikon fails. Lets wait + see.
