D400 just a rumor

Just curious, if you were shooting a feature with fantastic actors and a great story which camera would you rather use, a Panasonic Hmc 150 or an HPX 500?
in general, it depends, give those options, neither. you can get a film on 16mm in the can for the price of one of those. now if i happened to own one of them for other reasons, that's the one i'd choose. if i had to buy or rent, neither for sure.

(who would shoot a feature with bad actors and a bad story btw? i mean even bad films were probably great on paper and/or in the director's head)

Correct me if I'm wrong because I am new to the DSLR scene. But I think to summarise, Nikon competing with Canon is quickly putting out the d60x as a response to Canon's latest 20p horror show. Then I am guessing they will release details of the D400 for a june release. If they don't mention it then probably they want to shift the D300 stock so I wouldn't lose hope. Their aim is to take the market away from Canon's 5D. If this is the case the D60x is really not the camera for us so we have to wait for June. If the June release isn't 100% what people want then I am guessing the next thing will be the Scarlet. In conclusion for me June couldn't come quick enough.

I know this is stating the obvious but just so were all on the same page. I actually found myself counting the days down till the 14th last time I did that I was waiting for santa claus to bring me a BMX.

In that case some more will purchase a GH1 others will pin their hopes on a FF D800 with full manual control (around 3-4k). Maybe a new D800 will come out in autumn - some generated speculations are going in this direction...

yeah it's a bit like that.

I expect we will see the cheapie announced tomorrow and the D400 around the same time the GH1 hits the stores at the end of may. It could be a tough purchasing decision if the D400 has manual control and a better codec. But at least we might have a choice by then. Santa is coming in winter here for a change.

remember santa I want manual shutter and ISO and 50Mbps mjpeg or better. You don't even have to bring me a new camera just fix my broken D90.

Oh no there might be an d800.......more painful purchasing decisions.......

I think the GH1 will help push the DSLR movie mode forward but wont be an option apart from the general masses.....who actually make Nikon money probably.

The best thing about new cameras being released is that it crushes the old ones, especially in the DSLR category. I mean, something like an EX1, even after release of the EX3 and various other cameras STILL has barely dropped from its original list price. I think it will be awesome if the D90s plummet in price after these newer cameras are released.

Still, if a used D90 is more expensive than a D60X (which will have 24fps movie mode, right?), it still might make more sense to grab a couple D60Xs instead...

Maybe this has been talked about but where did the D5000 come from? Was there a D4000?

Nikon has been going D70, D70s, D40 D100, 200, 300 700 etc. In film they was a N2000. Maybe a film N6000 I can't remember them all, N90 and N90s. I still have the N2000 and the N90s sitting in a drawer.

But I don't remember a digital in the thousands unless it was a Coolpix maybe?

Anyone know why they would jump to a D5000?

Nikon rumors have listed the following specs for the D5000-

D movie image editing and enhanced scene mode
Silent Mode AF

Could this be like the GH1?

please santa

All will be revealed 11pm EDT apparently.

I suspect they are calling it the D5000 because it's a new genre of DSLR for movie making like the GH1. It's a marketing strategy to make it stand out from the crowd. I'll have 2 thanks Nikon.

if it doesn't have 20p I'm starting another petition!

good find btw. You beat all the bloggers and rumormongers.

no sign of the D400 there so i guess we have to wait till June. But the D5000 looks like it might have an improved video spec. we'll know for sure in 4 hours.

I don't mean the physical look, I mean the spec-

D movie image editing and enhanced scene mode

But I'm not expecting any great improvements until the D400
