D300s Jello on youtube

Yeah nice!

Does the Canon 5D2 and Panasonic GH-1 suffer from jello to the same extent as this?
Drew

Instead of 'jello' how about calling it the 'reality shifter'. And wasn't that salesguy in the frame the notorious rooftop killer? Was this an Errol Morris doco?

nb - if that was the D300s - that was some seriously violent panning going on there. How would a professional video camera cope with it? In what circumstances would anyone even 'film' like that? I don't think it's " 'nuff said"...

i don't know, didn't we all know it would have jello? what else did you expect. the question is if it has less jello than the d90, i think slightly. yes the 5d and gh1 have similar amounts of jello, they are both closer to the d90 than all of them are to the red one and consumer cmos video cameras which all have much less.

First thing I noticed was the location is a Best Buy. So since the D300s is not for sale yet I doubt Best Buy has them.
I'd call it a fake.

Relax man. This is very likely legit, because the camera body was shown in the authors hands in another clip at the same location. That panning was meant to show the rollling shutter effect, and it did. So as far as speculating about the camera's rolling shutter jello, it is in fact " 'nuff said"

I own an EX1 and shoot RED from time to time, and they have significantly less jello (but still too much for my taste). Thererfor this video was useful to me.

BTW Quick pans are often used in action shots, if you really wonder in "what circumstances anyone would film like that."

Wrong. They are for sale, and best buy, amazon and calumet have them.

These are some bad videos from Nikon Rumors' admin.

http://nikonrumors.com/

I wouldn't call them bad. I think the video's are nice for what they are intended to do: Show some technical traits of the d300s.

The jello is not nice. But what about that terrible autofocus and that hideous clicking sound it makes?

My hope for Nikon's video endeavours are growing awfully thin.

The D300s has not been released yet. Best Buy on there website has a pre-order. Store pick up 9/8 to 9/14.

Amazon says they will be in stock August 30th.

This video of someone jerking a camera around is not using a D300s.

Do you have Best Buy's in Germany?

Again that video is from a Best Buy. They don't have them yet. Fake. Internet trolls

This af-video is only possible with a d300s

Exactly. This is real.

Zim, every single video that you said is not possibled(and is faked) has been real.
With the autofocus mechanics, this one is most obviously real. D90 and d5000 do NOT have these mechanics. You wouldn't be able to fake it.

all I can say is Best Buy is saying in store next month. Maybe a few are getting them. Plus some guy jerking a camera around or doesn't know how to focus isn't going to tell you much about this camera.

B&H doesn't even have them yet.

You are missing the point here Zim: The guy jerking the camera does not try to tell us a lot about the camera. He is jerking the camera to see how bad the jello is. No more, no less.

From the official videos coming from Nikon, which looked very good, there were no shots that could indicate how bad the jello was, and therefor this guy went to Best Buy and did a test so we could all get this question sorted.

BTW do you really think the author of Nikon rumors would deliberately try to make a Nikon camera look bad?

All in all, as far as video goes, this camera offers very little new and/or useful features. No manual exposure control, fairly bad jello, lousy compression/codec and only 24p. The last complaint there may seem sort of controversial, but for people in Europe this means flickering lights bonanza (24p does not sync with the 50hz electrical current, but 25p does).

Check this out to see the problem: http://img1.focus-numerique.com/focus/videos/nikon-d300s-video-nuit-1.avi

that's only a problem because of the lack of manual control though. i like 24p better than 25p because speeding up to 25 is less noticable than slowing down to 24 and i need to deliver in both, but it needs to be shot at 1/25, 1/50 or 1/100 under 50hz lights.

Matt, what format are you shooting? I get rolling "scanline waves" when shooting 24p at 1/50 using my EX1 (CMOS)
