D300s announced

Stop looking in the rear view mirror. VDSLRs are not camcorders. Turn and face the strain....ch ch changes.

Well we don't want traditional camcorders, now do we? We want an affordable digital cinema camera. That's been the goal ever since the introduction of the DVX.

In my opinion, VDSLRs are such a new phenomenon that none of us should be so bold as to define what they are or are not. At this stage they are still not "anything", they are becoming "something". Therefore I really do think we should encourage the manufacturers to make them what we want (aka ***** about it.)

Face it, this is the closest we as filmmakes have come to having what we allways wanted from our digital cameras:

24p
HD
shallow dof
exchangable (and affordable) lenses
superb latitude
extreme low light capabilities

And we have been given exactly that, sadly at the completely pointless cost of loosing manual control and quality compression.

I'd say this is definetively the time to ***** and moan, and get this final step right.

Exactly!
I have no hope for the 700x. No more waiting. I'll go Canon 5DM2 because it has all that but just not 24p/25p. I rather live with frame rate conversion than with Nikons impotence.

I dont want to be troll of this thing but hey guys, let s close the subject.
NIKON is not serious about video
let s forget all about this and eat cake with gramma

- no stairsteping correction
- jolie jello in my ...
- stereo jack? great ! hey that s great! hey? Panasonic dolby digital on small cameras?? Helloooo??
- manual control? naaaa!
- crappy codec? why do not correct that ? Oh yes ! Licence problem? Proud issue?
- autofocus?? WHOAHAHAHAHA !!!
- 2000 dollards for the same shhhhh... would canon do that? noooo!
- 720p? did I miss something? Hey Nikon? Have you heard about blueray? True HD? buy an engineer?
- hey! Nikon? Are u listening??? eeeer... no
This last one is the most correct. Canon is so far ahead. But the worst of it is that NIKON has too much proud to realize they have a huge marketing issue here.
I shoud become one of their external consultant (hey it is no free!)

but hey guys? Now you can put your SD card in the D300s, or if you want to save money, put it in your ...

Look at the brightside. At least either Panasonic or canon are bound to get it right, maybe as soon as the next release.

There're already rumors going around about an updated 4/3" Camera from panasonic to hit this September.

Keep hope alive.

NOW, Hope is about selling my NIKKOR LENS and D90
And I am going to be soooo happy to switch to CANON

F..CK NIKON

The Nikon Team (and slave)

PS: Tomorow, I go to Ginza and sell my D90 and my seven NIKKOR lens
dont be naive, this is the end for NIKON. That is what we call, a strategic and inreversible error
They are not even aware about their mistake

Man, such a perfect time to release the Scarlet! Everyone fed up with VDSLRs being so annoying, Red will sell them like the original DVX.

Unfortunately we all know Scarlet will be another year away :(

Is it just me or is the Scarlet freakin' huge. Good luck getting that by the authorities as a tourist point and shoot camera. I'm not too sure it will fully qualify as a VDSLR.

And who wants to do that? If it ever comes out it is going to be a camera for serious movie making not family travels. If you want point and shoot there are plenty of choices out there.

I know I'll catch hell for saying this but I think Scarlet is gonna be DOA! I'm sure it will be a great camera but for the price all the FullFrame and APS sized DSLRs are gonna make Jannard and his investors wish he wasn't so flakey and coy when it comes to releasing cameras. The whole "everything is subject to change.." or whetever that has become Red's mantra is NOT nearly as cute as they think.

Um, family travellers don't have to sneak past anything "as" anything. Filmmakers who want to look like tourists might. I know it's not common at weddings but maybe you're able to imagine if you try. :-) think documentaries, guerilla filmmaking, sports and concerts, and so on. This is one of the really big things about dslr's if you haven't noticed.

I'm happy I went with Canon's 5D. The body is only 20% of my investment. So I can afford to upgrade from year to year and I'm confident Canon will give me what I want. If not Canon, then Panasonic. Forget about Nicon, they are not interested in investing in a completely new market for them.

I dunno. I think they will pull through. RED One is still better than the 5D mark II for capturing motion, and I would rather shoot a 2/3''s camera with RAW than shoot a 5D m II sensor with a h.26 codec. RAW is where it's at, and RED will deliver that. It's not even past their projected release date yet.

Sure some users won't need to shoot video in RAW, but that is a HUGE selling point for any professional or wanna-be professional.

I see RED not being able to manufacture the Scarlet fast enough for the demand, and that is the only major problem I expect. People who only compare the sensor size is like people whom only compare one spec on a computer, and not accounting for the front side bus or ram speed. The Scarlets will be able to capture video extremely well and hold it's own on stills depending on the model.
