D300s announced

to tell the truth I can't see if the stairstepping issue has been removed. If true, then there MUST be an upgrade for all D-movies camera at the launch (28th august in Japan?).
What about manual control? If it has the manual control, I might get one of those...

Personally I dont think those video are that great. There are a few good shots but all the night shots are full of noise and the images fall a little flat. Ive seen better d90 stuff on vimeo for sure.

That first Youtube clip makes me almost positive that there is manual aperture and shutter control. How the heck else could she control the image like that in the desert??

Also the video of the mountain biking is all shot at a very high shutter speed to allow the operator to grab good sharp stills when needed.
The video was shot at the correct settings for good stills of the action.

There is definately manual control of Shutter and Aperture anyway. I hope they didn't forget manual ISO

Stair-stepping is still there. Jello actually does look improved, though.

But with the stairstepping still present, It's probably a no thanks for me. =T Least I saw the HD stuff before I went out and bought it, though.

The stairstteping is basically non existent in these videos. They are of course edited by top notch editors. Best that money can buy. The images are very steady, shot most likely on the new Tripod Mode on a tripod and on very professional and expensive steadycam gear. Exposure and color are on the spot. If this is raw footage, and I doubt it, then the color off the camera is pretty nice and if it was CCd, which of course it was, then the codec holds very well indeed for that. The codec might be photo jpeg now. Now we have to wait and witness how the camera video mode gets destroyed in less capable hands.

The D700s is only 3 or so months away.....much MKII and anamorphic playing to be done before then.

The stairstepping is all over the place. You only have o pause it to see it. Not to
mention it's making most of the imagery soft. Exactly
like the D90.

There's little to no visual difference between the two video modes judging from said top notch expensvr editors blah blah blah.

And I have no idea who considers that nasty yellowish orange cast in D90 footage to be anything accurate. It's far from it.

I like the rubber rotors on the twixtored helicopter blades. Look at the clips! The bitrate/encoding is all over the place again too. Some places it looks fantastic, other places, like the mountain bikes, look terrible.

Is it just me or does it seem to be able to capture more detail in wide shots than the D90/5000?

Wow... you'd think Nikon was a camcorder manufacturer the way some people rap about the video capabilities.

Nah, we dont need a camcorder manufacturer, all they do is add weird sharpness and wonky colors. We just want 24 manually controllable JPEGs per second. No autofocus, no automatic controls at all. Doesn't even need to have sound, just better quality "pictures" than we have now.

Stop looking in the rear view mirror. VDSLRs are not camcorders. Turn and face the strain....ch ch changes.
