Cross your fingers !

I'm taking Koli's advice, and saving my money. I don't have to buy anything right now, as what I've got is fine, a 5D mkI for stills, (And still damn good), and an HVX for cine (Superseded but still very usable).
So I'm going to wait ans see, meanwhile working out how to get AVCHD in it's various flavours into Avid MC.

The downside of a video-mode firmware update is all money we've now spent on Nikon glass because of the lack of manual aperture control. :undecided

I won't complain though...

BINGO

Guess who didn't factor in the thirst for manual controls that would turn a nation of Canon users unto their competitors lens array?

The beauty of any of these cameras is you don't have to spend a fortune on good glass...you just have to do some research. A 1.4 is a luxury with a dslr not a necessity as it is with an adapter indoors. I had nikon glass to begin with so Canon lenses can kiss my ass, especially after the image i'm getting with some other brands (I ain't namin' em until I finish my Ebay shopping list).

Kholi - You, you, you can't just dance around with such juicy inside info. I am holding out for the 5D Mark II and Canon glass.

Although the Pany camera will work out great, the still side of things the 5D rocks. Need a camera I can do both with and use it confidently. I think Canon wins as the Hybrid, but I will wait until June and go from there (will consider the D400 if info is out by then).

yes... and this honestly could be one of the only reasons a firmware update might be considered other then some radical malfunction which we haven't seen.
If there is an update I would be, as a Nikon glass owner, very slow to flash anything that might make me have to go and grab a bunch more canon glass unless something very enticing was added as well :)

Just a bunch of little reason why I am waiting...

GH-1 should be out or at least more info/samples. We might be past the rumor stage of Canon firmware with the 5D Mark II and yes I think news will be out about the D400 (maybe not a camera, but more info). Lastly, I have a gig I want to use a DSLR on for video and photography.

It will be a good time to make a decision about which direction.

I'd like to be able to upgrade to a 5DII and keep on using my Canon glass. And of course buy more Canon glass. As things stand, if I went the 5DII route I would have to budget for adaptors (Leica R and Contax) and fairly serious money, even S/H. Nikon glass isn't really in the same league as real Leica (As in Ernst Leitz, Wetzlar), or German Contax.

Canon are you listening.....Give me a reason to buy your kit...!

Dave

Dave you seem to already be set on your lenses so have at it.

Saying Canon glass is orders of magnitude better than Nikon seems to be pure subjective contrarianism.

I can't imagine why you would wait.

I didn't say Canon is better than Nikon, they're pretty much on a par, but the consensus among 'togs is (Or at least was) that the lenses from Leitz and Zeiss (Real ones) are in a different league.
My only real reason for going that route would be to get manual aperture control, and if Canon gave us it a firmware update I might go for it.
But in any case I've put enough holes in my bank balance lately that any non-essential (Ie, not food / home) purchases will have to wait a while. Hey, maybe by then Canon will come up with the goods. Yeah, right!
Dave

They've already come up with the goods, a camera with a video image better than anything on this board using any lens you have in your kit for 35mm adapters minus konica ar.

Sure, but I ain't gonna buy Nikon Glass so I can have aperture control and then switch to Canon glass to shoot photography stills, much less try to pull that off with run and gun international work.

I am waiting just a wee bit longer, hoping for the best or just stick with a two camera set-up.

That was for the non canon glass owners. I'm not using Nikon glass anymore as i've fallen in lust with the m42 mount very cheap(er), fast, and sharp. I'd really like to buy the kit glass but my wife would hang me from the rafters. I'm out of the habit of buying lenses on based on my adapter knowledge as those rules are out the window. You don't have to have a 35mm 1.4, we have entered the world of photographers and the plethora of lens knowledge outside of how we shoot is huge! Check out fred miranda, mflenses.com and some other forums, if you want to know how the sigma 17-70mm will look search for it on Flickr. This camera is a GAME CHANGER so along with the huge lens selection the low light performance is on another level. We have not had anything comparable to shoot with on this board with an adapter on the front of it. Nothing.
