Craigslist is getting downright depressing

I guess you never heard of those Nigerian emails? How do you know this isn't just another variety of scam? We've seen these over and over. Sometimes it's "my kid has cancer and I'm gathering donations", sometimes it's some other hard luck story. It's the internet equivalent of the guy who approaches you on the street for "bus money" or "gas money" etc. Since it's craigslist, I guess they'd go a bit bigger and ask for "rent money". Same scam different day.

And if this is genuine - which I highly doubt - it doesn't solve any problem... what happens next month when rent is due? You got two young kids - there are social services you have to turn to, like it or not, at least it's more realistic than soliciting random strangers on CL. And a bigger problem is this person should get some job skills otherwise they're not getting that job they're allegedly looking for... I mean, a posting in all caps full of misspellings? I gotta take a pretty dim view of this - how did she get those two kids without making sure she's got skills to support them, and relying on a husband/boyfriend is not a plan... don't breed 'em if you can't feed 'em.

Not to get political, but there's serious issues with the welfare model that we have. If a person has a child, they get X amount of dollars. If that person has another child, they get X+Y amount of dollars, so on and so on. Not saying that this applies to the poster, but it does apply to your sentiment about breeding.

Whether it be no income or low income households, the more kids you have the more money (and housing and assistance) you get. I suppose they could stop doing that and just take the kids away from people who can't afford them, but then you run into a similar problem with foster care. I can't tell you how many times I've approved someone for a loan where their entire income was based on the government paying them X amount of dollars to take in stray kids -- and some of those households I visited were downright strange. I never once got the impression that any of these people actually liked children; they were just a way to supplement their income.

A complete generalization, mind you. I'm sure there are plenty of foster parents out there who love their charges. But, honestly, adopting a child is being a parent, fostering a child is running a daycare.

You know, it probably makes me a Bad Person, that I'm thinking you want me to send you my hard-earned $$$ and you can't even be bothered to properly spell, capitalize and grammar-check the request?

Well, I'm comfortable, with that.

LOL

No, just finance. I love, love, love advertising, though, and it's probably what I spend most of my day doing.

I'm not even sure "high powered advertising" exists anymore as an entity in and of itself. Most companies have advertising departments, and people like me usually just manage a small crew or do everything themselves.

With easy access to online marketing tools, direct marketing mailers and third party vendors all able to supply business, the ad man is essentially obsolete. My grandfather was a "high powered" ad man in New York back in the day, maybe I mentioned him or something. He was ridunkulously talented in advertising. The urge is probably stuck in my genes.

Okay, I just misunderstood your earlier post.

My definition of 'high-powered advertising' is anything past a guy on the street corner wearing a sandwich board...

..mmm. Sandwiches...
