CRAFT digital cinema camera?

Keeping an eye on this. Why don't any of these cameras seem to support in-between frame rates like 48fps or 12fps? I'd love to dial in the frame rate one frame at a time.

Anybody have any idea which sensor is in the 4K camera? Please, oh, please don't be the CMOSIS CMV12000.

Looks interesting, but I don't like the proprietary battery option. Having a standard size battery mount for the back would be a better choice, and let the user choose their battery system.

I agree about batteries and everything else that could possibly be standardized. These camera startups have to realize they do not have a prayer unless they can make it easy to move into their system and be able to compete on price. Before Blackmagic I would say this camera had a shot but now it is going to be a tough slog. The image & spec bar is raised pretty high these days and the followed up by $1,000 mirrorless cameras that can do 85% of what everybody wants anyway.

The fact that they have a December ship date that is iffy by their own words pushes this camera into 2017 from the start. Another year of development by the existing players in the space.

By 2017 the price will need to be pretty low, or the performance will need to be outstanding. The global shutter is all the will really have going to separate them from the rest. It looks really neat and modular, but sometimes modular can bite you in the behind if it also isn't a completely solid assembly.

Looks really nice, but the first thing I questioned was if 4K/60P with 13 stops in 2017 is a good idea. (Although I hear now it may do 120fps in 4K, but not sure yet.)

That proprietary battery can be mounted on the back of an element, or 2 can be used in a power element, and you can mount an LCD element behind that. Plus, each battery only costs $49, so it's not that bad.

Their pricing sheet indicates a spec'd out 4K model < $3,000.

Very skeptical about the overall quality and ability to deliver, but in theory, that's fantastic.

agreed, except it says "in intervals up to 120fps" so it appears to support this.

An affordable S35 camera with global shutter, mechanical NDs and easily interchangeable lens mounts that records 4K ProRes... what's not to like? IF they can deliver on this without any big gotchas (moire, limited dynamic range, weird color shifts, etc.), then I think they may have a winner.

The specs and price are great, but I hope some day soon somebody does a one-piece camera. Modularity at first seems totally rational, but it ends up being bigger, more expensive, and less flexible. I'm still looking for a global-shutter camera in the handicam body style.

To understand why this body is important to me, you have to understand the kind of work I want to do: a mixture of ultra-low-budget creative films and maybe some event videos for some extra cash. Therefore it's most important that the camera be portable and inconspicuous. Big rigs are an anathema to me. But so are DSLRs, with their lack of XLRs and short battery life.

A camera that weighs 5 pounds or less, fully kitted out, and specifically has a hinged, rotatable LCD screen on the left side (in other words, the body style of most 1/3" camcorders) is a very specific requirement, because I want to hold it like this, and raise and lower it like that.

It's just that I want one with at least a Super-16 sensor and an interchangeable lens mount. The FS5 and GY-LS300 are pretty close. I guess I'm mostly holding out for global shutter.

Thanks for the price heads up. I totally missed the pricing link on their site. They are competing on price. I take back what I posted before. If the native ISO is good there is room in the marketplace at $3,000
