If one person has it on his or her hands and leaves the room and touches a bunch of public handles and then other people in the building touch those handles then it's all over the place. You'd have to live in a bubble to keep away (which I guess is why that saying exists).

Will the virus save the newspaper industry?
This panic is becoming silly.

Right but:
"Most of the victims who have died were elderly, many over the age of 80, had underlying health conditions including cancer, and were already in hospital when the virus was detected."
The economic damage is out of proportion to the problem. I am curious about the future evaluation of this situation.

100 people die per day in car accidents in the States. Statistics are a funny thing.
It's natural to take the cautious side when a deadly unknown comes into our lives. Regardless of what the statistics currently say, we don't know much about this virus. We personally don't know what our odds of dying are if we get it. In these early months, it seems that old people are, as usual, the primary victims. But with what seems to be a 2x or 3x death rate compared to other viruses, it is for sure, of greater concern for everyone.
Many of my friends and colleagues in in their 60s and 70s. They have a reason to have great concern as recent statistics indicate the death rate for them to be over 15%. A younger person, may think, meh, it's just another flu. And for them, maybe it is. We just don't know yet. Time has to pass to see how this plays out and then things will settle out to some sort of new norm.
I must say I am rather disgusted by all this downplaying of a very serious situation and comments that only old people get it.
And if those younger people don't take proper precautions they will spread the virus and kill more people.
Indeed.I agree. It doesn't help that so many people are giving their opinion on TV, radio or in the press who don't even have the slightest idea what they are talking about. The constant drip-feed of misinformation will make this crisis far worse than it needs to be.
