Couple of P2 Problems.

Hi all,
I've been searching the forum for the last day to solve a couple of problems i'm having importing the clips off my P2 cards. Unfortunately, time is running out so i'm sorry if these issues have been covered!

Firstly, the P2 cards have suddenly started to pick and choose when they mount on my G5. I believe this to be a problem with the G5 as they mount as usual on a PB I have access to. Therefore, are there any suggestions as why this may suddenly be happening?

Secondly, If the cards do decide to mount, I then get a problem with the P2 import box within FCP. I get the 'spinning wheel of death' and then have to force quit. Can this be something to do with FCP prefs?

I have tried the usual things such as running Disk utility and Tech Tool Pro, changing firewire cables....unfortunately, nothing has worked :(

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions you all may have.

Hi David,
I haven't even got that far :(
When the cards (2x 8gb) choose to mount, and I try to explore them, they are empty?? There's no contents folder or last clip text file- so seemingly, nothing to copy.
I'm doing nothing different to what I have done numerous times before.
The playback on the camera shows the clips are there- and working fine...and it all works completely fine on the PB at my office.
Unfortunately, there was limited space on the laptop so I couldn't copy the clips to that or even to the jam-packed externals we have! For my Filming today I had to switch to tape which certainly wasn't ideal but "needs must"!!
I think I can assume that it's the G5 in which the problem lies.
Hmmmnnn...

How are you (physically) trying to mount cards on the G5? Throught the camera FW port? Card reader?

I'm mounting them through the FW port...I'm just about to try the port i've never used (or seen!) on the back of the G5. Could it be possible that the front port has become a little dodgy?

Anecdotal evidence says do not use the front FW port on the G5s.

Don't know if that is the issue, but use the back ones.

Well, I tried the back port and exactly the same problem :(
Everything just hangs. Now when I went to unplug the FW lead from the back, I could here a very high pitched whistle coming from the tower. I unplugged and the whistle went.
I've just tried it again...(after I gave the tower an incouraging slap!) and I have managed to copy 619.7mb over. However the whistle came back and the copying has stopped....I'm starting to fear the worse :( The whistling only starts when I plug the camera in.

The mac is about 2 years old so I probably am due an upgrade!! I ran the diagnostics test and everything passed.
However, I now believe it's the port at the camera end that is fried. I have successfully copied over the clips and the whistling stopped when I held the cable in firmly. I will plug in my firestore- when it's charged- and if this works, it should confirm that it's at the camera end.
I've soon changed my tune!! I was convinced it was the computer before...either way, I guess my wallet will be opened!

I'd try using the USB connection.

When I connect using FireWire, I get one volume on the desktop.
When I connect using USB, I get two volumes.
Odd.
Using a PC Card slot to transfer footage has been flawless.

I can confirm that the problem lies with the imput socket at the camera end. My Firestore and an external drive have no problems whatsoever.
I'm about to contact the company that sold me the camera to see if they can sort it out.
Thank you all for your imput. This site is top class!!
