Countdown...

Jannard

Red Leader
This is so much fun. We have so much to do and have come so far in such a short period of time. Most of the time it seems like there is "no adult supervision" and the inmates are running the asylum. Perfect. For the record, there are 7 RED employees and close consultants, counting myself. Then two outside teams. It is pretty incredible to have announced last Dec. that we were going to build this camera and the sensor design was not finished. "Impossible!" was what we heard. 8 months later, we are ready to show 4k footage that is exactly what I had in mind in Dec. And it is two weeks before fall. Two weeks earlier than we spoke of at NAB. The sensor has not been characterized. There is no dead pixel correction. The color profile was written by one of us. The footage was shot in our warehouse in three days by us. Shooting began the day we turned the full sensor on and had full 4900 x 2540 capture. We have scrambled to get the footage into a package that could be shown on the 4k projector, and had quite a few obsticles in our path to overcome in order to make the IBC theater. We love the pressure.

I appreciate that many have believed in our project and placed reservations for the RED ONE camera. I also appreciate all the skeptics that said we would never get this far. It has been quite motivating.

We still have many problems to solve, but they seem small in comparison to what we have accomplished so far. We still could be surprised with something in front of us, but trust me when I tell you we embrace opposition.

I wonder if it's too late to turn in my frequent flyer miles and make it to IBC. If it were that easy I'd do it. Guess I'll wait for the SoCal showing. Go, guys, go. And here's hoping everything runs smoothly. :love4:

Yes the entire Red team should take a bow.. You guys have pushed a 18 month engineering cycle down to 8 months, and the only side effect of that acceleration is a sensor that seems to kill everything else out there.

7 people.. man there are more secretaries in most camera companies :)

Bravo.. and Im just sad I can no longer make it to IBC to see the big screening.

"'That's exactly it,' replied Don Quixote, 'that's just how beautifully I've worked it all out -- because for a knight errant to go crazy for good reason, how much is that worth?"

"Impossible!" was what we heard.

Here is to tilting at windmills and slaying the giants!

Break a leg and bring it home!

Cheers Mr. Jannard and the entire RED TEAM!!

Thanks Jarred, it seemed appropriate for this massive project.
I have spent a longtime lurking on your site and I really do appreciate your hard work and the people who post.

Shouldn't there be some blonde chick in red hot pants swinging a big titanium R at the end of a chain and running down the theatre aisle whilst an exec from some eastern offshore camera company is filling the screen and bellowing...

Anyway, good luck on Friday Red Team! (Can't wait for the news briefs.)

Yeah, but perhaps having Jarred over there would have made updates on this site quicker. I can still remember the agonizing wait for NAB updates...Its Dejavu all over again.

Yeah, whoever goes to day 1 of IBC had better be on the ball when it comes to reporting back to DVXuser.

Unfortunatly I'm busy Friday and can't even be a remote news relay by phone/sms to the web.
I'll be reporting my findings from the show starting Saturday daily in the evenings (IBC time)

We are all behind you Jim, And hey Jim if you need to add someone around the shop. I'm in between jobs right now, so I could help out. I work for cheep but work hard 18, 20 hour days don't scare me. I could do everything from get coffee in the mornings to make sure the shop is clean. If you need any graphic design done I've been doing that for 6 years, so I could help in the marketing department. Also I know my way around a film set so you need someone to be a grip or PA or, I even do audio and produce. So I'm kind of a jack of all trades. Honestly I would almost work for free to be part of something so special. I think allot of people here would. If you would like I would be more then happy to send my resume under the subject of the Revulsions Bitc*. Let me know

And good luck guys at IBC I'm sure it will kick AS*

Ive been following the progress on this camera from the sidelines for quite a while now on the forums. And my first (of many) post on this forum has to be this:

Bravo. Bravo Jim. Bravo to everyone who has been involved in this spectacular frontiering endeavour which shall transform cinema forever. One day Epitaphic indeed. Bravo.

As an Architect myself I have the utmost respect for your post-modernist aesthetic approach behind the Red camera (and all your products). I love that it carries a certain metaphysical presence which narrates meaning through form; You see, It's not just a camera, It's a motherfucking Quake 3 Rail Gun on Quad damage.

yeah im hoping someone will be the man on the ground.. lots of new stuff coming out.

What time are you throwing the switch on the REDsite? I would like to know about what time to start wearing out the refresh button on the browser.

Not only is it great to witness the developement of such a revolutionary device, the pure enthusiasm of it's creators puts a sweet cherry on top of this truly exciting saga.
The will to share it with this community gave us all something really special and I thank you guys for that.

-Just be sure to go straight to the exibition, otherwise The Projection might be out of focus.

After all -its Amsterdaam.

And Jim,
you're aware that belivers shouldn't be counted only by reservations,

right?

Aaand
in the evening of the 8th. you guys really deserve to sit back, relax, play a movie named the same as that day and relax the same way....
haha

Just letting you know, Jim, it turns out that not only am I looking forward to the unveiling of RED footage at IBC, but the UNLV (University of Nevada Las Vegas) film department is as well! :)
