Costume drama test shoot (natural light)

Thank you!

Here is the actress' show reel which contains lots of footage from that project shot on the 7D.

Most of the other material is shot on EX1.

interesting.
wide shots not so great, lighting wise. could use some fill (reflector anyone?).
closeups are fabulous.
thanks for posting. good to see what the cam can do in this situation.

Thanks guys.

It was quite a challenge working with the natural light as it kept changing (it was a day of patchy cloud). I did do another take filling in with reflectors but the close-ups didn't look as nice and the wide shot couldn't be matched with the nicer close-ups.

Here is another one that was a bit of a challenge. Reflectors were used, but perhaps not as effectively as they could have been. Some of it turned out quite nicely, though. Quite pleased with the Vermeer look.

Two more scenes to go, one in a small church and one exterior shoot.

i would just use reflectors in the wide shots so that they better match the closeups and expose for their faces instead of the overall scene. bouncing some fill back into the scene will also help you even out the exposure and retain more detail in the highlights.
pretty nice costume detail!

Lovley and pro (but yeah some reflectors would have helped) in any way. Great job.
The only thing I nick-pick on is a problem that - even in big budged productions - is often overlooked. Period correct make up. What means in most cases non at all. Those eye lashes are almost always way too much.
Yes there was make up back then, but very seldom unless you have a hooker or noble dames.

I AGREE

Check out "The white Ribbon" it is early 20th century but the make up look (white/transparent powder and almost invisible mascara) is also perfect for the earlier period.

The church exterior is just great but would have benefited from some camera movement. The interior scene looks somehow like shot on a sound stage. Same here, using a slider would have added much production value and sense of depth.
