Well, you dont have to be costco member to buy from their .com store but non member will be charge extra 5% to the product price.

It would be cheaper to join Costco ($50) and then buy the camera. Better yet, buy an executive membership for $100--at the end of the year, you'll get $70 (2%) refunded from the camera purchase alone.

They have those 24" Dell monitors too. I had heard of people buying from Costco in order to use their return policy as a crutch against falling computer and electronics values on their gear, but for some reason I never actually did it... until now. Too bad they don't sell Macs.

u don't have to cut the upc, I submitted my rebate online

and to the guy trying or considering buying a camera from those dealers in Crooklyn, DON'T DO IT, you'll get stuck with a canadian camera and a huge bill
I bought a 100a from willoughby's which are "authorized dealers" and they sent me a gray market unit. only reason why they refunded the money was because they were about to loose their "authorization", but UNauthorized dealers don't have any type of obligation/bond with Panasonic to sell only US product. in order to get your money back you'll have to get consumer affairs and the BBB involved and that's gonna take a long ass time.
so beware, just save to buy from someone like Abel cinetech or EVS

That's great, I've never actually been in one so I didn't know, I can't find any in their online site so I assumed it was a no go. I never returned something there, is it literally as easy as taking back a Mac that cost $2200 but is now only worth $1000, yet getting the full $2200 back in cash?

I can't believe there aren't entire rental houses specializing in consumer grade electronics rentals abusing that policy.

They do sell macs, ipods and pretty much everything else depending on what week you are there.

Costco has sold the DVX years ago, they kinda come in and out. Doubt you would get the rebate though, they are not an authorized dealer, as far as I know.

Much better to stick with a place like Abel Cine.. you not only get the camera for the same price, you get the rebate, plus Abel gives DVXusers alot of other freebies if you tell them your a member... and you can usually get deals on things you buy in the future if you bought a camera or two from them.

And of course.. there is the whole thing called customer service. If you rocked up to mr. Costco dude and asked him if you could sync timecode he would point you to the rolex's in the glass case.

That's hilarious, too bad Rolex's don't keep good time.

yeah.. i bet over on watchuser.com they say the same jokes about the same costco dude pointing at the glass case.

About 6 years ago I was looking for a second job and got hired at Costco. I went though orientation and decided to quit at the end of the day. I bought a membership the next day. I learned so much about how good their customer service is that I had to join. (It was one of the few union warehouses, though, and decided against the union thing.) Anyway, the return policy was one of those deciding factors that made me join. In orientation they told of someone who brought back a ten year old set of patio furniture and got a refund. While I think that's ridiculous and the person that did it needs to be smacked, that's great customer service.

That said, not every item has the unlimited return policy and as of Nov. 2002, computers were put on a 6 month return policy. (There were numerous stories of people upgrading computer by return every couple years.) I'm willing to bet that the DVX and similar items will fall under that "6 month" rule. Now, while they dont specify "camcorders" in the 6 month policy (only "all desktop and notebook computers") keep in mind that they dont specify any sort of time limit for anything other than that. So that can be read as there is no time limit, or that the time limit is up to their discretion.

I would say be a decent human being and dont buy a camera hoping to take advantage of a store. And if you do buy one trying to take advantage, I hope you get hosed. If people screw them over on the 100B, what are the odds that they'll stock a DVX200?

yes im a member of costco because of the return policy.. when i was 18 and living in Canada we would take our broken hockey sticks back and they would trade them for new ones.

they still dont even ask.

Does anyone know if you would have to pay sales tax on the DVX if you buy it from Costco?

Just to test, I added a DVX to my Costco cart and started the checkout process. $140.98 was added to the total in some mysterious "tax." I assume it's sales tax...dunno if it's state-specific.

if the item is being shipped to a state that has a costco, they will charge tax.

They used to sell mac's at Costco stores, you might want to go in and
ask a manager if any Costco's near you carry them anymore.

it would be a US model, but i thought i heard panasonic no longer includes the book

Because the camera ships directly from Japan to the dealer it is not possible to include the DVX Book and Magic Bullet in the box, as we would have to spend an outrageous amount of money to ship it there and then have it shipped back. So we put a letter in the box telling folks where to register their camera and thus receive the book and the software.

Best,

Jan
