That didn't last long:
The 'game changer' that wasn't: Company falsely claimed FDA authorization for coronavirus blood test
Grifters gonna grift. Times like these always bring out the opportunist shysters.

FWIW I ordered 4 of these disinfectant wipes and they are still in stock:

How can anyone know where this going re projecting how all this will develop if there is any truth in the following.

Thanks. They indicate that they have stock, but not enough to meet the required minimum order(4). But I did order some other large wipes that they did have. Much lower count, but much larger wipes, so can probably wipe down a lot more per wipe. Did some quick searching for them and found them in another place, but you had to register and be a medical facility. They also had face masks, but again, you have to be a registered medical facility to purchase. I get it...
What about using paper towels with a fluid like hydrogen peroxide?
Here's bad news from a paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Only 47% of admitted patients in China had a fever. That means the forehead temperature screening is ineffective. Not that anyone seems to be using that anymore, but it helps explain how the cat got out of the bag.
The authorities made a catastrophic mistake by lying about the masks. I understand that they did it because there was a shortage, so they didn't want to panic people, and also because the masks are needed by healthcare workers, but whatever the intention, it is a devastating mistake. How can anyone now believe anything from the same sources - whether about effectiveness of medication, abatement procedures or anything else? Once you are willing to lie about such life and death issues, your credibility is nil. It will be a long road to gain back that trust, and there should be a full reckoning, and the people responsible should face consequences. Errors like this not only cause loss of trust in authorities - which trust is desperately needed in times of crisis like this - but also cause a loss of social cohesion; now it's up to everyone individually to take care of themselves because it's up to you what measures to take since you can't trust established authorities - everyone will do their own thing.
Speaking just for myself, I couldn't understand how they thought they'd get away with it. It was stupid from the get go - supposedly masks don't work for the public, but somehow at the same time they work for healthcare workers. During the 1918 Spanish Flue, masks were mandatory for all of the public and strictly enforced. It's especially important, because even if you show no symptoms - as many Corona virus carries do - you are lessening the chances of spreading the virus by wearing a mask. This is perhaps a more important aspect of wearing the mask than personal protection - you are protecting others, and preventing the spread of this virus. Besides, one of the most prominent ways of the virus spreading is touching your face, particularly the mouth and nose - by wearing a mask, while f.ex. shopping or out in the public where you might come in contact with the virus, you are less likely to touch your mouth and nose if they are covered by a mask.
And now the CDC is thinking of recommending masks for everyone.
Sadly, whatever comes out now from the authorities will have to be taken with a truckload of salt - what are they saying and why and with what motives and whose interests are they really protecting? Watching the same folks take everything that comes out of China at face value is also dismaying - they are building disease models and containment procedures based on Chinese data that is riddled with corruption and political motivations. Who in their right mind is going to trust any of these graphs and projections?
Trust in times of a crisis is critical. It's tragic to see it squandered so carelessly.
We should throw out the Chinese data and model without it
I don't believe that is true; generally only those that are sick should wear a mask when in public.
Well, that's the fly in the ointment, isn't it? You don't necessarily know who is sick and who isn't. There are reports that like 30% of people with it are asymptomatic. If you could just look at someone and tell immediately, it would make this all a lot easier.

Had actually thought about paper towels and alcohol(I have plenty of paper towels), but alcohol is in short supply, too.

Maybe just regular soap? This article says it will work if you scrub well. Soap, bleach, rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. I've been wiping down my groceries with hydrogen peroxide on paper towels.

The article should mention hot soapy water.
Well, speed ahead to the future, and now we know more than we did in the past. It now boils down to where you live and where you go. The experts are learning more each day with this virus, it's not some conspiracy as others seem to think.
Asian countries mandated mask wearing well before the outbreak hit the West. It seems likely to me that the CDC gave false information to the public so that the mask supply could flow to hospitals, where they're needed most. They should have told people that and advised us to use cloth facial coverings. (But the concern for hospitals was understandable - people were stealing masks from hospitals anyway.)
Present your evidence if this is more than your opinion.
