Copying Original Footage to a USB Drive Bad?

Here's the deal -

I shot video using the 7D, and I offloaded the footage onto my nice hard drive. Then I copied the footage for my client onto an external hard drive that only has USB connections.

Is my footage affected by the copy or can that footage be copied back onto a firewire 800 drive for proper playback and edit?

Please help... I do not want to waste time recopying this footage onto another hard drive.

?

Post makes no sense. If you copied it from your hard drive to another, that means your original footage is still there. Am I missing something... Key word being COPIED

I know. Another editor is convinced that I have somehow down res the footage by copying the footage onto another hard drive using a USB2 cable. He wants me to recopy it again because he does not think the full quality of the footage is on the USB drive.

Is it possible to lose info by using a USB wire?

I just need a second opinion because his claim seems far fetched to me.

Please tell the other editor to use common sense. Usb, eSata, Firewire, etc. as we all know are connections that all do the same function which is, basically build a bridge between two peripherals. Now the main difference between these connections is the transfer of data rate at which it is done at
(basically speed). So a hard drive is a "storage" device and no matter how you get information on there quality is the same.

Probably what he is thinking is if you were actually editing from that drive with a slow USB connection you could run into problems as there might not be enough data throughput between the drive and the computer to keep between live edits, but to think your footage is somehow different because you have a usb connection or firewire is truly asinine.

You are just copying files.

It's like asking someone to mail you a CD with a PDF on it instead of sending it via e-mail. Just a file transfer.
