Copy Selected P 2 files

This is a "How Can I" kind of question.

Got a call from a client. They need a range of clips from a particular project, one interview shot on a particular day out of 3 that we did. I know the clip numbers for this interview. Can I create a contents folder on a drive, copy the necessary clips in MXF form to the drive with the correct audio ,video and clips into their respective folders and and hand this to the client and have it work? The material is being captured to a PC based avid system FWIW.

I would use P2 Viewer for this -- it lets you view the contents of MXF files directly, plus you can copy from one P2 card to another, and those P2 cards can be virtual cards that are just directories. It will create the CONTENTS directory structure for you when you copy to an empty virtual P2 card.

Thanks. I don't have a PC so no P2 viewer though I am considering some way to run PC stuff on my mac book.

SO I took over a copy of the complete contents folder on a Rev drive. THe editor plugged it into his PC based Avid, the disc was read like a charm and the editor copied the clips he needed, video and audio mxf's and everything was good.

To sum this up: Since I knew what clips were missing I could have copied just the audio and video MXF's to a disc and brought that in. That was all the avid really seemed to need in order to do its job. The missing clips were thrown in a time line and everything played back perfectly. Lesson learned, and shared.

Also regarding Rev discs. Their copy speed is slower when copying from mac>ufd formatted disc than Mac > to HFS+ formatted disc. I also got some funkiness in a copied file (QT DVC Pro 50 .mov file) when I exported it from FCP to a UFD formatted disc. The smae file exported to a HFS+ disc was fine BTW. THat said, the flexibility of being able to hand off a disc that can swing either way Mac or PC is huge.
