C100: converting AVCHD to Prores

I quote this from the other post

"1st, create new sequence: AVCHD 1080p 25p
2nd, intepret footage as Alan Craven suggest above. (right click media > modify > interpret footage > conform to : No Fields (Progressive Scan)
3nd, turn off Mercury Playback Engine GPU/CUDA, select Software Only (Menu > Project > Project Settings > General
"
dont know if this gonna help

Thanks. I tried turning off Mercury Engine but nothing changes.
Here are two other screengrabs of the same avchd, opened both in quicktime and FCPX (but this applies to Premiere as well). Again, in FCPX all was set to progressive and I'm displaying files at better quality.
Screenshots are crops at 100%, not 200%

@Gary: this should show a bigger difference then the first example I posted. My eyes see that red is messed up in FCPX compared to QT.

I have the exact same issues.

If I use after effects to interpret the footage then it works. Premiere doesn´t do it correctly.

ouch...I don't have after effects...
Yesterday I did a quick test with 5dtoRGB and it seems to work, but man it's so slow that I can't imagine how much time it would take to transcode 1 hour of footage.

UPDATE
I just did a test shooting a red object at 24P (not 24PF). I imported the file in FCPX and I don't notice any chroma smearing.
So the problem may reside in the 25PF option for us in PAL land.

Sebben, could you please do the same test to confirm that 24P is fine?
Thanks,
Diego

Yes 24p is fine. That is what i am using until I can figure out a good way around the issue. Having everything dynamically liked to after effects in premiere is not the way to go for me.

You might try again once 5DtoRGB Lite 1.5.12 is approved by Apple. It's already in review, and should be available in the next day or so for free in the App Store. Transcoding performance should be much better now that AVFoundation is being used for ProRes encoding.

Thomas, you are the man!!
I downloaded and tried out version 1.5.12. It's not only fast, but it looks like I solved this problem with chroma.
Thanks a lot.
I will keep on testing it on some new footage and report here the results.

Diggin through old C100 threads - has this issue been solved? Will be using the c100 with FCPX too, so was this a "single user problem" or else?

From my various tinkerings, and others' input, I've concluded it's a FCP X issue. Nothing that can't be resolved - it's just that X is a bit flakey at remembering what's progressive and what's interlaced (and it could well be a meta data issue particularly with Canon's particular recipe of AVCHD - I didn't have this issue with Panasonic AVCHD.)

I'm happily back on FCP 6/7 - so it's no longer an issue for me, but go into the settings view on a clip within FCP X and check it's set to progressive.

Where I had a problem was batch-changing clip properties. One moment, they were set progressive and then, when I looked away, the crafty little buggers "forgot"...

Setting them individually had more permanent results.

Ben.

Thanks! I now have both 7 and X on the new machine and will just try which of them will work best. Some seem to use X just for .mts ingest, but then 25p conforming will still be an issue...
