Convergent Design Ships Odyssey7, New Firmware for Odyssey7 & Odyssey7Q on Monday

Oh, no mention of the multi-stream display corruption issues - is this fixed in mondays release?
I believe so. It is addressed in the detailed reslease notes that will accompany the firmware on Monday. There's actually a whole pile of little functions in there that are not mentioned here, like timecode functionality.

We thought we hide the product in the FS700 section, until you delivered?
:cheesy:
Then, we may talk about promotion to other communities.

That's nice, but when looking for info on products people tend to look for the company site and product info on there...so maybe the company website should be of focus as well?

Do a nice little search for "Convergent Design" on Google and just see what comes up...that should be the focus.

It seems like the convergent-design site is being ignore and this new one created as an out, an excuse for the failure or promises.

BTW, will be ridiculously lame if you can only capture 1080p60 through SDI the future and not through both HDMI and SDI.
This is the new Convergent Design website, only several DNS systems seem to be taking their own sweet time to switch over. Odyssey7Q.com is a backdoor to the same site, but the point is absolutely to type in Convergent Design and to land at the new site. As soon as all the interwebs reliably do this, the old website gets archived.

You may consider 1080p60 over SDI but not HDMI to be ridiculously lame, but that has been the spec from the very beginning and one that we have repeatedly stated. It is a hardware limitation.

That's cool. Does it now properly generate TC when recording when there's an SDI input with paused TC i.e. camera not recording but O7Q is recording. It currently records static TC which screws a lot up.

Any other cats you can let out about the timecode functions?

Come to think of it, can you not let us have the detailed notes yet?

Ta.

Am I missing something? Exactly where are any improvements for my C500? Did I really have to wait 3 months to apply a 3D Clog to REC 709 LUT and scroll through shot footage? I was hoping for some way to record HD compressed or 120fps.

I realize CD has to cater to ALL their clients but I have been waiting for these promised options since I purchased my Gemini's 18 months ago.

Not going to lie disappointing to say the least.

Reading the roadmap:
Sony 4K RAW to compressed 4K - will that be limited to 30 fps due to technical restrictions?
For frame rates of 50/60 FPS and 4K HFR burst - always and for ever the uncompressed path, only?

Oh Boy, what lucky we are - Sony lifted the exclusive use of uncompressed 4K this year. Otherwise, we never would have gotten access...

Any answer on this mitch? I believe that post got lost in the flood of replies...

Well fellow c500 owner didn't you read in a response above where Mitch wrote that CD is not an F700 centric company? News to us both I quess as we paid double what f700 owners paid and we get nada. The 120fps we promised? Yeah sure someday. Don't you get it? We are not a f700 centric company and don't mind that guy behind the curtain.......

Hi all,

Performed the new registration on CD's website. Went with a breeze as for (re)registring my OD7Q !

Can't wait for monday to try 4K RAW @120fps... Week is gonna be long.

Cheers,
Stéphane.

It's likely that the code and Licensing of additional compressed recording options will be the same. It's just a different process to import the camera image. No need to battle between C500, Sony FS700 or ARRI owners, my posting about hiding this thread from Sony forum was joking.

We have to keep morale up, after there is more painful time of waiting ahead of us all.
(If we are stuck to a reasonable way of 4K production, some fellows already are raving happy).

Edit: Erich has resolved this issue. He said it likely occurred because my original account migrated to the new site, but it wanted me to reset my password (though it did not explicitly tell me this, nor did I receive the email -- due to some bug perhaps -- from CD about how to sign up on the new site)

Mitch Gross,

When attempting to re-register on the new website, I receive the error: "Please enter a valid email address."

I'm guessing it's "invalid" as long as it's not Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc?
That, or it's giving me this error because my account on the old website is tied to this address. But I can't get to the old website to change my email address there.

Sent Mitch a Private Message and delete your e-mail account in your posting to protect yourself from being spamed. Otherwise you will learn about Pharmacy products and Nigerian cash transfers. And you may give me a thank you back for being so kind and helpful, or?
:)

By the way, I wonder about habits in this DVX user community. In a German board, we frequently use "thank you". Mitch spent us some exclusive news, answered many questions during a busy day and he did not receive a single thank you for his effort.

It's the arrow in the bottom right, guys. :) ---------------------------------------------->

Were you able to get your past purchases to show up? E.g. fs700 recording options?

Hi Mitch,

Thanks for the update. Several questions

1) MAJOR question. On the website, 4K compressed no longer mentions 60fps, which was a huge selling point of the 7Q. Is 60fps 4K compressed being nixed?

2) 4K2HD 422 compressed 60fps. This is also a major selling point. Is this realistically feasible for us in a reasonable amount of time?

3) What can we expect for firmware time frames? Are firmware updates going to speed up? I certainly hope it's not another 3 months for just another maintenance update.

Thanks and have a nice weekend

I wasn't too worried about that. Plus I decided to remove the email address in text form and substitute a screen shot.

But yes, Mitch does deserve some thanks.

I believe that everyone will need to re-register with the new website and that you should be receiving an email instructing you as to how to do this. Although I believe some people have posted info on this already.

well, the "re-registration" went fine for my O7Q too... but where has the activation key for the fs700 recording option gone? i do not think i can re-register it the same way...

exactly my problem...

Hi Mitch, for the info about the update. Your engineers have obvlously been hard at work! I do have a few questions.

1) For some reason I got the idea that your 4K solution over HDMI might eliminate the "1080p60 over SDI but not HDMI" limitation but I can't find a reference. Was that my imagination? If it isn't possible can you dash my hopes now so that I can look elsewhere for that functionality?

2) Does the Odyssey 7Q support 444 recording over HDMI or is that also a hardware limitation? If it is a hardware limitation will your 4K HDMI solution resolve it?

3) Have you all considered implementing a compressed DNG solution similar to the one the BMD has in their cameras? I am sure it might make a lot people who are currently recording 4K uncompressed raw happy.

4) Are you planning to provide Prores XQ support? It seems like it could be a great fit for some of the 4K2HD implementations.

Thanks!

I'd like to know the answers on these. I really thought that we were getting 4K2HD @50/60fps in this release.

I'm really hoping that the situation with the app isn't a sign of things to come. Ya know, pulling the whole "subject to change" card. If 4k @ 50fps isn't going to happen, then I really wouldn't have ever bought the 7Q. And by the looks of things on the site, it isn't happening.
