On the question of an App to control the Odyssey7 & Odyssey7Q.

This functionality has been discontinued. The issue was that in the end it would slow processor speed inside the Odyssey monitor/recorder. This could at best slow interaction with the device in other way such as responsiveness with the touchscreen, and at worst cause processing delays that would effect recording. We would never allow any function to endanger your recordings. So after much R&D investment in the project, Bluetooth capabilities for the Odyssey7 and Odyssey7Q will not progress.

However, we will enable the RMT remote port at a future date and we will make available an SDK (Software Developer's Kit) so that third parties can create their own wired interfaces with the Odyssey7 and Odyssey7Q.

Great to see 120fps @ 4k make an appearance. That's 4 sec, right?

Wasn't there something coming with regards to being able to shoot 4k2HD @ 50fps in this firmware?

Now, we have access to all Sony FS700 RAW output modes, right?
Any info update possible about 4K compressed recording?

Right... It's just that when i spoke with Amber, she just said it had been forgotten about in favor of getting the website up to date.

Wow, one of the main reasons I bought the device - just like that - we're not doing it.

No surprise any more about Remote access.
Processing and coding 4K Data seems to be quite demanding.

DNxHD also dropped since initial announcement (or will come much, much later).

Also, I can't see where the app is mentioned. Is that the Utility Drive section?
4K2HD is still up to 30p in this firmware.

The App question is not in the bulletins. It is answered in the post directly above yours.

The Odyssey7Q will now (as of Monday) accept every output available from the FS700. That is, with the exception of standard def. signals. Forgive us if we opted to back burner those for now.

As stated before, 4K compressed is and has been our top priority. We have others as well, but that one is tops.

Not forgotten about, just not an absolute decision reached. In the end it was not a business decision or priorities decision. It was a technical decision. We do not want to hurt the performance of the device in other areas (especially recording) in order to implement this one. Bluetooth functionality is surprisngly invasive to the way the Odyssey7Q works.

exciting! really looking forward to the 4K 120p, advanced LUTs and playback controls! I'm bit disappointed that there's no 4K2HD 60p, not a big deal though as we have HFR.

do we need to re-register on the website?

Also could you explain the Utility Drive a bit more detailed? do we save our LUT's to the drive, put the drive inside the 7Q and transfer the LUTs to the 7Q, afterwards beeing able to remove the Utility Drive? Or has it to stay inside the 7Q while recording? What about using the USB Port for the LUTs and FW updates?

So am I correct in assuming there is no 4K to HD @ 60p in this release? I have to be honest that the list of features in this release is disappointing for as long as it took.

Thank you,

Mitch,

How responsive is the touchscreen scrubbing control in the new playback - is it like scrubbing in an NLE or is there some delay and lag?

I believe that everyone will need to re-register with the new website and that you should be receiving an email instructing you as to how to do this. Although I believe some people have posted info on this already.

Understand that User-created LUTs is still a future functionality. What is coming in this firmware is a bunch of LUTs for other cameras plus the ability to use LUTs when recording Apple ProRes 422(HQ) from a video (not RAW) source, such as on a C300 or an F5. The exact nature of the functionality of user LUTs has not been determined, but there is room in the Odyssey7Q for a group of LUTs to live there, perhaps eight (don't hold me to that). But you could have a library of thousands on the Utility Drive, and you could use the Utility to port the LUTs from Odyssey to Odyssey.

The USB port is a good place to store a small stick of gum.

Mitch, let me say, i appreciate your honest reply on this one.

One thing to consider for your Engineers/RnD/Marketing: Test if a possible feature works before announcing it. This is not acceptable. I'm not raising my voice a lot regarding delays and promised things, but this is simply not a correct way of doing business.

I really don't care that much about that app, but i feel very sorry for the people that do. I'd feel like i've just got ripped off while reading post #2.
