Convergent Design Ships Odyssey7, New Firmware for Odyssey7 & Odyssey7Q on Monday

it's a step forward, not a leap.
But I hope, development is back on track now and can focus to expand the compressed recording options. There should not be another three months period to deliver that amount of progress.

Let's be happy about what we get Monday evening and be patient for the next release.

The utility drive sounds like a bit of a fudge - what's really needed for this is an SD or similar memory slot for user storage of LUT's etc.

Still no 1080p60 Pro-Res capture? For Christ's sake!

At least take the spec off your frickin' website.

Still totally and utterly disappointed. As are many people in the industry I work in.

You all get too excited for what continues to be failed promises.

Sorry my first post has to be about this....but many people have been completely burnt over this one feature that CD promised yet has still failed to provide, while still boasting it as a feature on its own website. A lot of fingers were cross for this release.

Hopefully the next one doesn't take another 3 months. At this pace, the Atomos Shogun will be out with 1080p60 support first.

Mitch,

How responsive is the touchscreen scrubbing control in the new playback - is it like scrubbing in an NLE or is there some delay and lag?
Extremely useable. There is a bar on the bottom of the screen (like watching a YouTube video) that can be quickly moved through. If you wish for a more precise scrub, use the entire picture area from left to right instead. There is also a single frame forward and back. Very responsive.

Cool - sounds good. Playback was a ***** in previous versions - are there any missing parts (or functionality) to the playback controls or is that now fully done?

More questions:

4K HFR looks good. For me, higher frame rate (240) in HD would be more useful. I can't remember if that was discussed over the last few months, I forget now. Is 240fps in HD possible and is it on the roadmap?

I'm sure you'll tell us once you start to play with it!

It's pretty full featured, but there are some additional functions we have planned. But if we get a bunch of feedback to go another way we will certainly listen.

You mean take the 2K RAW, turn it into video and then record that at high speed? It is in the plan but we need to see how fast we can do this while maintaining stability in the codec and quality in the video. We have to do everything in realtime so it gets hard when the frame rates really get up there.

Yes that's what I mean. RAW is just too rich for me with many jobs.

So am I correct in assuming there is no 4K to HD @ 60p in this release? I have to be honest that the list of features in this release is disappointing for as long as it took.

Thank you,

Playback was much needed and very welcome.
4k burst is great and I'm very much looking forward to it.

Other than that... meh

We're all waiting for 4k ProRes, 4K2HD @ 50/60p and HFR ProRes. But at least we now have a bunch of interlaced and 720p options...

Reading the roadmap:
Sony 4K RAW to compressed 4K - will that be limited to 30 fps due to technical restrictions?
For frame rates of 50/60 FPS and 4K HFR burst - always and for ever the uncompressed path, only?

Oh Boy, what lucky we are - Sony lifted the exclusive use of uncompressed 4K this year. Otherwise, we never would have gotten access...

We have many clients and they are all meaningful to us.

May be it's because we have been expected to complain a bit.
If the community gets lost, someone should mirror the key facts in the Sony sub forum again.

Oh, no mention of the multi-stream display corruption issues - is this fixed in mondays release?

That's nice, but when looking for info on products people tend to look for the company site and product info on there...so maybe the company website should be of focus as well?

Do a nice little search for "Convergent Design" on Google and just see what comes up...that should be the focus.

It seems like the convergent-design site is being ignore and this new one created as an out, an excuse for the failure or promises.

BTW, will be ridiculously lame if you can only capture 1080p60 through SDI the future and not through both HDMI and SDI.

Wait some more days until they fixed their DNS entries, every routing table is updated and the corporate website will be in line again.

Such kind of migration could have done more seemless of course. But before I throw another stone at business processes and R&D enhencements - wait - my company has to migrate the site, too.

I thought it was helpful to put it here. I don't know about you guys, but the first thing I always do when I come to DVXUSER is to hit the NEW POSTS tab and then I see everything.

There are C500 owners on this forum who use the Odyssey7Q, plus F35 as well. New functionality may interest F55 people and there's also the Odyssey7, which could interest pretty much everyone. The Odyssey7Q is not simply an accessory to the FS700.
