Convergent Design - Firmware 5.10.100 for Odyssey7, Odyssey7Q and Odyssey7Q+

There are dozens of little fixes that we never tell anyone about. Honestly, sometimes we just forget to. I know for a fact that this one was specifically addressed and corrected.
Thanks. I have spent a lot of time in the open software universe as a user/admin and we like complete release notes/changelog. Enjoy your time off if you actually get some. Robert

From the Release Notes for 5.10.100, KNOWN ISSUES:

- FS700 4K RAW to 2K/HD Apple ProRes S-Log2 to Rec709 LUT not working.

This bug was discovered at the last minute. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Set the camera to 4K at 24, 25, or 30p.
Set the Odyssey7Q or 7Q+ to FS700 and 4K RAW -> HD Apple ProRes.
Use the Picture Profile menu to select the type of video LUT to be recorded. S-Log2, REC709 or REC709(800%).
No other settings in the PP menus will matter, because they are only telling the Odyssey to go into these modes (although weird settings may mess up the camera's LCD relative to the Odyssey's display).
Normally, when set to S-Log2, the LUT button would apply a LUT that would show a standard REC709 image. This is what is currently not working in the 4K RAW->HD ProRes mode (or in 4K RAW->2K ProRes). Note that it does work just fine in the 4K RAW->4K ProRes or UHD ProRes modes. As a temporary work around, switch between Picture Profiles to compare S-Log2 to Rec709.

Please notice that the image in the FS700 RAW->ProRes recording modes has been greatly improved. The S-Log2, Rec709 and Rec709(800%) are more attractive and accurate than in the past.

Ah, got it.

Yes, the LUT function for 4K Prores is excellent.

The 709 rendition from the FS700 is also superb! I'm almost always shooting in Slog2, so I don't see/use this PP on the FS700, but it looks dead on. Better than the camera displays in fact. When shooting in 709 800%, are there plans to update the display on the 7Q to show that you're in 800%? Right now is just shows 709 regardless. Just nitpicking.

Actually it does change over to say "800% - Rec709" but there is a bit of a few seconds delay while the Odyssey detects the change. It's generally not something people swap back and forth between constantly so we didn't sweat this delay.

Hi Mitch

I was intending to get an Odyssey, for my GH4, as much as a monitor for focus and composition as a recorder, and I thought I'd prefer your OLED screen to the Shogun's IPS, so a couple of months ago I went to see a rental place/ retailer, but in an hour of struggling we never managed to set up in HD. Of course on their stock Odyssey 7, 4K was not an option. Later I did find a video somewhere that showed how to do it, but you still needed to switch everything on in the right order, switching off or detaching a cord nixed the setup, etc. So my question is, have you simplified the setup process with the GH4 and made it more robust, and can one trigger the video from the GH4 side ? My European GH4 has a recording time limit, which is one reason more why I would like to run an external recorder for interviews.

Just about all the many steps for setup and the order required are on the side of the camera, not the Odyssey, so there's not a lot we can do about it. Here's the video I made on the topic. I try to describe everything going on so it runs a little long (7:47), but as a checklist of steps you can easily do it in under a minute and once set you wouldn't really ever need to change much so you'd just be able to turn it on and go. There is a camera-based trigger now in place, although when I shot the video Panasonic had not yet released the camera's firmware update so I had to describe where the setting would be in the future, as explained in the video.
