Dear Friends,

Mitch Gross, our Director of Communications, is on a well deserved vacation.

Today, we are announcing the availability of our latest firmware, 5.10.100, for all of our Odyssey monitor/recorders:

Odyssey7, Odyssey7Q and Odyssey7+

This new firmware is significant in multiple ways, here are just three:

1. For the Panasonic GH4, we accept 4K (4096 x 2160) and create supersampled 2K in Apple ProRes 422,
and this dramatically increases the image quality available from this camera.

We also take Ultra-HD, and create supersampled HD, again, this is a dramatic increase in image quality.

We also Ultra-HD and create supersampled HD from the Sony A7s.

Here is a link to a White Paper on this subject, with images for comparison.

https://convergent-design.com/product-resources.html

The above link also has a White Paper on why we have Record Options, and lists many of the popular cameras
that do not require a record Option, such as the Sony F5, F55, F3, F35, and many others.

2. We now support Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), Apple ProRes 422, and Apple ProRes 422 LT in all recording modes.

Thus, one can now choose to use the Apple ProRes 422 version that best fits their needs, to either optimize recording times or image quality.

This is just one of the many planned features for the Odyssey7, Odyssey7Q, and Odyssey7Q+.

3. We now support the Sony F35 in 10-Bit and 12-Bit.

Thus the Odyssey7Q and Odyssey7Q+ work exceptionally well with the Sony F35.

Many more features are in the works.

GREAT !!! Thank you Dan and everyone at Convergent Design ! :D

EDIT : at the time of typing this message, the website has not yet been updated with the new firmware...

Well for once a new feature I need BEFORE a shoot :D Have a 100fps shoot tomorrow! Downloading now... :D

Dear Jim,

This was up around 1 pm Eastern Daylight Time.

I just downloaded this myself.

I will be happy to troubleshoot this with you.

Or it may work if you refresh the webpage.

You may call me at:

seven one nine --- nine three zero --- one three seven six

I am in the United States, and I provide 24/7 support.

My main working hours are from 7 am to 10 pm Eastern Time, but accept calls 24/7.

Dear Essami,

I assume that you have a Sony FS700.

Please note that this is a cached mode in the camera, around 4 seconds of video at 100 fps or 120 fps.

Earlier when I personally ran some timing tests, I got 3.63 seconds of 4K Raw, 12-Bit Video at 120 fps.

In 100 fps, this would be a little over 4 seconds.

But, of course, if you play this footage out in Slow-Mo, at 23.98, then on-screen time is much longer.

As always, I recommend that you run a test.

Respectfully,

Hi guys, just checking in.

Hope you each find something nice in the new firmware.

FS700 owners, you may find that the images on your OLED are a lot more pleasing and accurate than before. You can also shoot 4K RAW->HD Apple ProRes in the Burst mode at 100p & 120p.

FS7 owners, you now have a solution for the color cast in your footage.

C500 owners, you now have more flavors of ProRes available.

GH4 & A7S owners, you now have significantly better HD images available.

F35 owners, you can now record in 12-bit RGB!

And there's more to come.

Dan, what exactly is improved with the FS700 LUTs? What is this exactly? The LUT function on the 7Q with the FS700 is still a magenta mess, so I'm assuming it's not that.

I'm really desperate to get 3rd party LUT support.

If I have to explain the image on the 7Q to one more client...

Great work on the expanded Prores support btw!

Sean, until the LUT's come a knocking what I've done with the previous firmware is turn the monitor Contrast all the way up to 90%. This gives me a really good starting point with good blacks and the highlights won't clip either.

There are two modes for looking at the RAW from the FS700, one is when recording in RAW and the other is when recording in Apple ProRes. Check them both out.

I assume you mean LUTs? Well can you explain how to view them? When I press LUT button absolutely nothing happens and if I press it for long there is still no options behind it. But like I said, pressing it, nothing happens... In the previous FW it turned on the rec 709 LUT, this doesn't happen now.

Is there another setting that needs to be turned on?

Im on FS700, 4K to HD mode.

/EDIT/
The LUT seems to work in RAW mode... Tried again in 4K to HD mode and nothing...

The best thing is to just let us load 3D LUTs... The Shogun just started shipping, what, 3 months ago? And they got their user-loadable 3D LUTs implemented March 16th. I'm pretty sure custom LUTs were a launch-day feature for the 7Q. We're now well past a year since release, even a new model released (which I've upgraded to!) without implementing the LUTs.
