Convergent Design - Firmware 5.10.100 for Odyssey7, Odyssey7Q and Odyssey7Q+

Ok, 4K to RAW is still the blown out magenta mess.

4K to Prores...either HD, 2K or 4K...nothing happens at all when pressing the LUT button. A flicker on button press, but no change in the image displayed.

Am I missing something Dan?

Mitch, you're on vacation buddy, let Dan deal with us high maintenance users ;)

Also, when I'm selecting different *Prores encoding options, the info box says "locking to input or source" something like that. The type remains Prores HD HQ regardless of the option I select. The other places it shows the encoding updates to 442, LT or HQ, and the time remaining on my SSDs updates, just not this menu item. I'm sure this is just a display bug, but I thought I would mention it.

Oooh! Just found out that a long press of PWR ON turns the unit OFF! NICE!!! Don't know how long it's been there but it's really helpful to me since I use the O7Q upside down and the shut down button is really difficult to get to.

Dear Sean,

I am surprised at this.

You are stating that the FS700 is giving you a Magenta image on the Odyssey7Q or Odyssey7Q+ with firmware 5.10.100.

I assume that the FS700 camera is in Raw, 4096 x 2160 at any frame rate from 24 to 60 (23.98 to 59.94)

And that your are using Picture Profile 7 (important: which you have reset to factory defaults in the Picture Profile menu).

And in Picture Profile 7, gamma = S-Log 2 (which it will be if it was reset to factory defaults).

And the Odyssey7Q/Odysey7Q+ OLED menu has been reset to factory defaults.

If these assumptions are not correct, please try these steps and then let me know.

You may call me:

seven one nine --- nine three zero --- one three seven six

Respectfully,

Dear Essami,

The 5 second press of the Power On button performs a power down by removing the power from the unit.

The F2 Button performs a much better logical, power down, with it first Safe Ejecting your SSD's, then powering off the SSD, then gracefully shutting down the unit.

I feel that the F2 button power down is the proper way to shut down the unit.

And the Press and Hold the Power On button 5 seconds is provided for the rare cases where one has to perform a hard reset of the unit.

Respectfully,

I will try the new firmware tomorrow but just one thought : FS7-wise, I hope the upcoming camera firmware update will not screw a few things up...

Hi guys, just checking in.

Hope you each find something nice in the new firmware.

FS700 owners, you may find that the images on your OLED are a lot more pleasing and accurate than before. You can also shoot 4K RAW->HD Apple ProRes in the Burst mode at 100p & 120p.

FS7 owners, you now have a solution for the color cast in your footage.

C500 owners, you now have more flavors of ProRes available.

GH4 & A7S owners, you now have significantly better HD images available.

F35 owners, you can now record in 12-bit RGB!

And there's more to come.

Not seeing anything here or elsewhere about a fix to the corruption found by someone in this forum on his and my DCI 4K via HDMI from the FS7. I would describe it as a slit or tearing. Mitch was aware of it. One of my main reasons for buying the 7Q+ was to record 4K via HDMI since Sony has not said anything about 4K via dual SDI so far.

Is a fix planned?

Thanks,
Robert

Mitch said they are in communication with Sony so I doubt the FS7 update will create new or re-establish old issues between the Oddys and the FS7.

Hoping,

From the Release Notes for 5.10.100, KNOWN ISSUES:

- FS700 4K RAW to 2K/HD Apple ProRes S-Log2 to Rec709 LUT not working.

This bug was discovered at the last minute. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Set the camera to 4K at 24, 25, or 30p.
Set the Odyssey7Q or 7Q+ to FS700 and 4K RAW -> HD Apple ProRes.
Use the Picture Profile menu to select the type of video LUT to be recorded. S-Log2, REC709 or REC709(800%).
No other settings in the PP menus will matter, because they are only telling the Odyssey to go into these modes (although weird settings may mess up the camera's LCD relative to the Odyssey's display).
Normally, when set to S-Log2, the LUT button would apply a LUT that would show a standard REC709 image. This is what is currently not working in the 4K RAW->HD ProRes mode (or in 4K RAW->2K ProRes). Note that it does work just fine in the 4K RAW->4K ProRes or UHD ProRes modes. As a temporary work around, switch between Picture Profiles to compare S-Log2 to Rec709.

Please notice that the image in the FS700 RAW->ProRes recording modes has been greatly improved. The S-Log2, Rec709 and Rec709(800%) are more attractive and accurate than in the past.

Been that way from Day One, but as Dan notes it is not the preferred way to shut down your Odyssey. Think of it like a laptop computer. F2 is like going to the drop down menu and selecting to shut down your computer, at which point a series of controlled processes execute to cleanly close out the system,. Holding the Power button is the same as holding the power button on a laptop -- it forces everything to just plain stop right away. Not as nice a way to go but sometimes necessary.

This has been fixed.

There are dozens of little fixes that we never tell anyone about. Honestly, sometimes we just forget to. I know for a fact that this one was specifically addressed and corrected.

Copy pasting known issues of FW5 from the manual:

KNOWN ISSUES
• 4K/UHD HDMI input recording 4K/UHD Apple ProRes, HDMI monitoring output shows lines in display. SDI output, OLED image and recording are unaffected.
• 4K/UHD HDMI input recording to supersampled 2K/HD Apple ProRes, OLED image may show lines in display. HDMI & SDI outputs and recording are unaffected.
• During SSD Safe Eject, OLED will flash after each clip completed. Operation unaffected.
• 720p50/60 over HDMI not functioning on Odyssey7Q+ (working on Odyssey7 and Odyssey7Q).
• Timecode triggering over HDMI not correctly functioning on FS7 & GH4. Use camera trigger.
• SDI output embedded audio occasionally has ticking noise.
• FS7 4K RAW->2K/HD Apple ProRes, S-Log3 to Rec709 LUT not working.
• FS700 4K RAW to 2K/HD Apple ProRes S-Log2 to Rec709 LUT not working.
• FS700 4K RAW Burst up to 10 additional frames (450 instead of 440) recorded. Additional frames are “bad” and should be deleted.
• FS700 4K RAW Burst -> 2K/HD Apple ProRes clip length may be off by 1% (437 frames instead of 440).
