Computer screen to TV

Hi,

I'm a little confused and I'm hoping someone can help me out. I just filmed a wedding this past weekend and I'm ready to start editing. I shot the wedding in squeeze mode 24pa. I edit on a 24 inch mac. Ive noticed that when I use FCP on the mac and then burn a DVD and play it on a TV, The color is drastically different! I dont know what to do at this point. Is there a way to buy a small flat panel tv and hook it up to my mac to check coloring. Would a small portable DVD player work to hook up to the mac and be the same quality as the tv? Help! Thanks guys!

Three things:

First, learn to use your vector scope and waveform monitor in FCP. Those will show you that your colors are within legal limits, and will help you ensure continuity.

Second, you aren't going to have truly accurate color monitoring unless you use a breakout box to a true production monitor. Household TV sets and portable DVD players with screens are not going to tell you what you want. And your computer's desktop is the least accurate place to judge color correction.

Last, depending on your workflow for getting the video out of FCP, compressing it for the DVD, and authoring the disc, you may be killing your signal.

I use a 20" iMac. I got a cheap monitor for $150 with the chroma, brightness, hue and sharpness controls and a VGA input. If you calibrate it right and set the computer's color profile to Adobe 1998, it will be the most accurate display.

Cool Thanks! How to I set the profile on the mac to Adobe !998?

You go into System Preferences>Displays>Color. Then on the right there should be a big list of different color settings. Click the one that says Adobe 1998. For some reason, there is 2 that say that, but it doesn't matter which one you click on.
