TESTING M2 / SGPRO in Los Angeles 6/16. anyone with Brevis care to join?

hey wayne, will my rev 3 diffuse/gg share the same light loss as the rev 2.i've been told that the light loss on the rev 2 is very acceptable and was just wondering if i'll benefit from rev 3 in terms of light loss and still gain that upgraded bokeh?

you wanna see acceptable...... you guys shoulda seen the lightloss on the Rev1..... HOLY smokes! it was like 1/3-1/2 of a stop.

hey tim is there anyway ground glass can be swaped out on the sgpro?say like if i wanted to occasinaly use that rev 1 for extreme low light situations?

i dont think so. the Sg GG is solidmount. I wish it were interchangeable. i would probably beusing the REV1 just because it was so dreamy and soft.

well its a few steps back in sophistication. its soft has a subtle vingette. but it also has a "promist" like look to it. but its color rendition was increadible. though i must admit the new rev3 screen is far superior.

the problem with my M2 is very minor and the pulsing is barely noticeable, so I think we were still able to get a good test. specially regarding light and light loss.

Luis, my m2 had same. Was able to make an adjustment by loosening and retightening spinning gg from motor. Took awhile though to get it right. When I first opened my unit there was a slight wobble to the gg which I had to correct. Now all good.

With others mentioning interchangeable gg on other adapters - I wonder if Brian has anything up his sleave with the m2 as it would be fairly easy to swap out.

So I had auditions yesterday, but Brian Valente, was kind enough to give me an appointment early morning to look at my M2 before the auditions.

He showed me his little trick on how to adjust the ground glass. I'll try to post more on that later.
I'm finally having the time to take a look at the adjustment. (we looked at them in his office on a different camera) And I think we found the problem
1. it seemed that the GG I had might have been a little off. (not sure but maybe)
2. The other thing we found was that the hardmount I had (home made by breaking a polarizer tiffen filter), had too much play. so if the GG was a little off then it would tend to move the M2, and since my hardmount had too much play, this was probably causing the wobble (pulsing of light)

I highly recommend getting a redrock hardmount kit. It has little to no play and with it, I'm sure my problems will be solve. I'll let you know after some test.

Thanks,

Luis

it all depends. I might have to do a few more auditions on saturday. so it will depend on what time they have to be.
lets touch base later tomorrow.
Anyone else going to cinegear on Sat.? maybe we can get a group.

Im sure Brian Valente is a nice guy, but for 2900$ for the full package, that GG motor shoule be balanced FROM THE FACTORY.

I believe its $1295, and yes it should be balanced at the factory, but then again, for the 5-6k I spent on my camera, my panasonic battery should not die on the 2nd month. (I mean its a battery, no moving parts, and panasonic is a huge company), and for 1400 my Lowel kit should be perfect. But mine came with a faulty on/off switch on one of my cables. (an on/off switch which is pretty simple if you ask me. no precision needed) Again a much bigger company.

I agree with you Tim. for the kind of money everything should work just fine and we should experience no down time, but the truth of the matter is that we are getting some great products from ingenious people who are providing it at a fraction of the cost. (look at cool lights, Brevis, M2, SGpro in comparison to the price of Kinos, P+S Technik, etc...) So, I'll cut them some slack.

the problem was so minor on my adapter, that I didn't notice it for a while. it only became apparent, when I tried shooting a light bulb with my 180mm lens. when it was out of focus, that's when I notice the blurr pulsing.

Remember tim:

"its human to err, but its godliness to forgive"

Haahhahahah. I think that's how it goes.

I've read you have Rev2 of the SGPro. Did you upgrade to Rev3? I have a Rev2 and haven't even had the chance to connect it to my camera yet. Was wondering if there's a big difference between these Rev2 & Rev3.
