Compression software (Squeeze?)

What is everyone using to get the best compression - primarily for web?

I am considering Squeeze.

I have been using the native encoder that comes with CS3, but getting less than desirable results. One of our corporate clients just handed down a "Streaming Media Standards" doc. Even when I follow it to the letter, the output is not very impressive. However the other footage on their website looks really nice, and they say it was all done using the standards that they gave me.

My guess is the culprit is the Adobe encoder.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Brad

I use:
Flash - on2 VP6 Pro (through FCP or SSQ)
QT - h264

I haven't used the 'adobe encoder' so I can't offer anything on that.

Sorenson Squeeze here, usually h.264. It very tweakable and I find that I get better quality out put than with compressor at about a 25 -30% savings in file size. Saves time on The upload and download.

I'm on Macs. I have compressor and have used it, but find squeeze is better quality lower file sizes and less time. Compressor can do pretty much anything as well, but once you tweak it to give the same performance as squeeze, it the compression process slows way down.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that.

I am on a PC. Usually, the Adobe Media Encoder does a pretty good job, but using the specs provided by our client renders a pretty nasty clip so I thought I'd look into something a little more robust, like Squeeze.

Brad:

Which platform?

Because Compressor on a Mac gives you some great options.
