Color Shift?

I apologize if this is a topic that has been covered in depth or one that is simple and I am merely overlooking... but I seem to have a problem with some of the colors in my test footage. I'm new to the filmmaking community and just purchased the A1 so I've been learning as much as a I can as quickly as I can and I've stumbled upon this problem.

I'm not sure what the problem is called, but I assume it has something to do with "color shift"ing since that what seems to be happening. I assume that the solution lies somewhere in the custom settings under the color seletions? If someone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate the help.

Settings where: HD/"24", 1/48, f1.6 and the suggested "Vision 2" preset from this forum.

It's called Chromatic Aberration and this is a natural artifact of the low cost lens that the A1 uses. All low end cameras have it to one degree or another, although this is a more extreme case. There's really nothing that you can do about it.

This article explains it in greater detail

The A1 lens isn't the greatest but there is no way your footage should look that bad, no matter the conditions... you might have a lemon there.

Wow, well that sucks. As Senior members of this community, what are your suggestions? I'll be researching more into this matter, but I certainly hope that this case is not one that will require a replacement of the unit. Thank you for the information.

My XHA1 has never been that bad! Even when I really tried to make it look bad, so follow the above suggestion @Auto Mode@..

did you buy it from a guy named Jarafed who's 800# forwards to his corner payphone? other than that, some moving video would be nice so we can see this issue in motion....

Actually his name was Jim-bob and it was at the corner haystack next to the mule on 3rd street.

For whatever reason the .m4v is not working with vimeo and since I do not have the codecs to view it or w/e I can not see if it is because it was rendered improperly or what, but there is a .mov that managed to upload.

That appears as though your incoming RGB signal is being shifted so they arent lining up properly. Problem.

I contacted Canon support today and they are sending me a shipping box to send the unit in for repairs free of charge. In addition, I guess I signed up for something Canon offers and they are going to send me a lender camera if the repairs take longer than 3 days as well as free shipping to and from the repair facility in Jersy. With the package I'm going to include the still photos and a description about the mess and hope that the camera may be repaired or at least a clear understanding of the problem with a solidified solution.

Yay Canon <3
