Collections vol.4: Mint in box

This is funny and probably the best looking film I've seen in the fest. Comedies tend not to have nice cinematography, but yours does! Good Job!

Whoa: since when do comedies not have good cinematography? Dude, you need to check out some of Matty_g's other work (from Lovefest is a great example), and look at "Lost at Sea" (in this fest).

Matty_g always makes his stuff look good and this film is the bomb, RED or not.

"...tend not to have good cinematography"... boggle the mind.

I'll be back with my review dudes. I was just boggling over this one review...

In general comedies don't have the best cinematography. Your average comedy (which obviously this is not) tend to have flat lighting, and that's understandable because the focus is not on the style, but the laughs. Examples of this would be any of the Apatow films, Kevin Smith's work, or any of the John Hughes comedies of the 80's (which I'm a fan of all those movies btw) now I recognize there are exceptions to the status quo out there, but I digress.......

I never said anything about Matty_g skills as a cinematographer!?! Judging by this he has "skills" I said the movie was funny and looked awesome! What else is there to be said? I liked it...

I know and I hear you there. Sorry if I came off harsh. Definitely not my intention.

I believe my intention was this: Matty_g RULES!

(and I'm not a fan boy, just had to state the obvious)

Hmm...that's interesting because Jessica told me you ARE a fan boy and you had threatened to smash her with another pillow if she ever said anythi...

I've said too much!

I'm not saying anything due to the sudden demise of a certain actress. It was truly tragic, but I can report she died laughing. Probably while watching this film again for the umpteenth time. My fault for giving her the DVD...

Hey man,

thanks very much about your previous comments. One of my big things with comedy is that so many of them lack a filmic approach. They're uniformly lit and the main focus is on jokes because obviously jokes are most important..... but that's not to say you can't have something be very funny but also very good looking. I think people just don't 'expect' any more from comedies. But look comedies like Ghostbusters or Sullivans travels. Beautiful movies that are only enriched by their filmic world.

I think the industry is finally attempting to move past this. Apatow has kaminski shooting Funny People.

Glad you enjoyed that element.

Haha...yeah, you guys crack me up!...as I write this posthumously...I'll haunt your butts for sure. Just out of principle....I have now hijacked puck's computer...he knows what that means....(Insert evil maniacal Vincent Price Creepy laugh here).

What can I say? You guys tapped into an emotional part for most of us and made us quirm with embarrassment for this dude. The Cough-Kiss was so stupid that it had to be inspired by real life.

Like Zak mentioned you had a bit of hiccup on the edit and a little more coverage would have helped with that one scene on the street, since the cut is very jarring. The wrecking the toys did go on a tad too long and could have been shortened by about 10 seconds.

All in all excellent film. I said a big Uh-Uh when I saw it was matty_g on this and it was becasue of that same raw, human behaviour that we saw on his Lovefest Enty (sorry, blanking on the name here) that I was looking forward to this. Excellent work gentlemen and only made prettier by the RED, but you guys coulsa shot this on anything ant it still would have been awesome.

On to the review.
I don't know why I waited so long to watch yours, damn my desire to go in order!
Love all the little references that lead to WALL O' MEMORABILIA!

This movie is so awkwardly funny, I really got a kick out of the lengths he was going to, destroying his own childhood, just to be with this girl. The cough-kiss ... tell me that happened in reality... please? I like the reveal of the girl and the crushing feeling the main character must be going through.

It looks great too, wonderfully shot. Kudos

How can this not win?

Totally flawless. Original and entertaining. Well shot, beautifully acted. I couldn't think of a criticism, as much as I tried. Give the guy a movie or a multi-gazillion dollar commercial to direct or something.

I left a rave review earlier in the thread, but I have one question which I'm sure many of us would like to know.

How are you getting around the copyright of using Star Wars products in your shots? Is it because its a comedy or what? Are you George Lucas' brother-in-law's cousin's brother's best friend?

I've always wanted to mock a product but was always afraid to because of copyright laws.

Honestly, I don't worry about it. We didn't really set out to make any money off of this. I haven't talked to my managers/agents/lawyers about it, so i'm not too sure how big of a deal it is. I try not to go into things worrying about rights, unless it's using specific clips or music. The sad thing about our industry is that people can sue you for anything...at anytime. You can't ever be too afraid of it all.

Try not to worry about copyright with projects. If it's good content then it's good content and it will do good things for you. y know?

Also, wanted to say that the lead actor in tis short has a film that is opening SXSW this week. You can see a EPK for it here.
