"Cold Calls": TRIBECA / Delta Online

Who is that homeless dude talking to the reporter? And how come he knows all the info about Jacks films?

Sorry there's a bit of overlap here with the "A Little Mouth to Feed" thread.

But here's an announcment. The trailers for LMTF and COLD calls + one "mystery film" of mine will be shown on local Austin TV tonight where I will also be interviewed.

You can see the show simulcast on the internet at:

Click the playbutton on their myspace page just after 10 Cental and you will see the show. __________________

Did you crop it to 16x9 or did they? Shame shame. Like the new crane shot. :) oh well. You got my 5 star support.

I cropped it to 16X9 within the 4X3 because they couldn't figure out how to show it without it being squished.

No. Seriously. The films went up 3/1 and I don't think I started this thread till almost 2 weeks later trying to get them to figure it out. Last I checked all of the films except "Locks" was playing squished.

Also it's such small play window that the narrow CinemaScope strip was just too small. So I had some fun doing a pan and scan version actually. I just said, here, lets make this easy, here's a 4X3 version, just replace the file please.

I was relieved when my friend sent me the above pic of the screens on the Delta planes and that screen is 4X3 and those are playing off a tape in the plane I think.

But the same squished thing happened to me at SciFi channel.com and Sundance Channel.com and now Tribeca. No. Seriously.

Worked out in the end. I think it was basically miscommunication that kept it being messed up so long.

Wow, things that make the purists like me (us) cringe. I thought the framing still worked well though, so you did a good job on the "common man" version.

It took me about 5 years to convince my brother that the letterbox black bars were actually ADDING to image, not taking away. Aye!

I didn't mind here since it was so small. Plus, like the letterbox bars which allow you to reframe horizontally, it was nice to be able to finesse a few things left and right too. I definitely went through and reframed the whole thing. And honestly I perfer the less wide version for this very small screen. 480 or above, yeah give me cinemascope, but for 280X210 I think the more pleasing ratio doesn't get a enough of a return to compensate for lack of image.

Getting down to the wire on this now.
Best of luck on the outcome!

DVXuser is pulling for you....
(well, at least I am)

All 6 filmmakers (one short has co-directors) are flown for free to NYC for a Delta event at the Tribeca Film Festival on 4/23.

That's when they announce the winner. They want the losers to come to so they can see the "I flew to NY for this?" looks on their faces I guess. :) The film that wins will screen again on the 26th, 29th, 2nd and 3rd in reserved spot within the Mixed Emotions Shorts Block at TFF.

I don't know much about the Delta event - my friendly PA contcat at TFF is waiting to hear back from Delta. Dunno if it's formal, if it will be a press event (it will be but don't know what kind), if hors d'oeuvres, chips, dips, chains, whips, or other party accessories are involved or if they will be screening the films.

If we find out it's a bit of a "to do" then I think some cast and crew will go since it's our only gauranteed event and probably we'd be singled out more as 1 of 5 at this special event even if we don't win, vs 1 of 80 or so shorts total at the festival if we do win. I talked to Blanchard and she'll likely go to the Delta event, which is good as hopefully she'll make me look important and attractive by association :)

For a minute there I thought you meant "attractive by comparison" - then I realized what you meant.
:)

Good point, by the way, on being one out of 5 as opposed to 1 out of 80 on the other side of it.

Less than 24 hours left now.
Best of luck.

Yikes. Here's a 14 page thread in another forum where people are jumping up and down and celebrating the fact that they're voting multiple times for one of the other films:
http://www.fanforum.com/f181/eight-...ost-but-ending-up-where-you-suppose-62882924/
Apparently it's for celebrities. So you can just post whatever in the subforum for your celebrity. Could have had a thread for Ben and a thread for Blanchard. Damn, didn't even really think about trying to motivate support from other forums etc. Just let my facebook, myspace, website, email list, and DVXuser know about it.

dang Jack...you won't know until you go? at least they are flying you in!

Seriously..keep us posted and if you get too crazy with too many people..call or text me and I will post something for you if you are running around networking!

I heard Glen was going because your 'sled saved' buddy and Peter are going to be there for another film. You all should have a blast!

I wish I could go just to meet Ben! :) (tell him one of your other actresses has a crush....and David if you are reading this...lol...hush up "i met this guy')
