Clean HDMI out for 5D Mark III delayed until May?

Were you able to see if the level of sharpness improved?

no, native sharpness is the same, noise and grain is finer, and the footage sharpens suprisingly well (recorded as Avid DNxHD 220x)

It also holds better against heavy colour grading.

Wait are you talking about the 5Dmk3 (with the new firmware) or the C100?

Well I don't know, thats why I was asking?:cheesy:

The point being that while this is a thread about the 5d3, its gone off on a couple of tangents about the BMC and the C100. That and the fact that the new firmware has not been released yet.

The source is me, I used the camera and there is that option.

According to Atomos: "In the HDMI output menu on the Canon 5D Mk3 you can select 24p, which is actually 23.97. Ninja-2 will do the pulldown removal." So apparently you have to match up the HDMI output signal (50i, 60i, or 23.97p) with the frame rate you are shooting. Sounds convoluted, but it's not native 24p over HDMI from what it sounds like.

Canon is not stupid lol, in the HDMI output signal setting, you can choose "Auto" "50i/60i" or "24p", if you leave it to auto it will automatically setup everthing for you. If you record using ninja, just tap the signal on the screen it will enable a pulldown removal.

If you use hyperdeck shuttle and don't want to do the pulldown removal in post, you can set camera to 24p and the signal will come out as native 24p.

You've tested this with the Shuttle? Because if the 5D3 is outputting native 24p over HDMI, I sure as hell want it for the C100.

No I haven't tested the Shuttle, but the 24p option is designed for recorders without pulldown removal feature.

I would wait until people actually have the new firmware loaded in their cameras and are able to test this for themselves before You take any of this as fact. These recorders function differently and companies like Atomos will only provide specifics for their device and even then there can be small bugs to fix for the first release.

hehe, Atomos has been working with Canon from the begining on the clean HDMI firmware, they've been testing it for over 6 months and have given Canon a lot of technical assistance.

If it works flawlessly on Atomos, it will be the same on Shuttle.

What I'm curious about is will I, at some point, be able to send out 24p native to the Ninja-2 without it having to remove 3:2 pulldown...such that I don't have pulldown issues during recording, nor do I have to wave my hand in front of the lens to get the motion to establish the pattern.

I guess you didn't know how camera HDMI signal works, it's always progressive segmented frame. that means if you enable pulldown removal on Ninja 2, you get perfect 24p/30p signal, exactly the same as those native ones. No need to wave hand!

For Shuttle, in 50i or 60i mode (for 25p or 30p) all you need to do is correctly remove the pull down in your software of choice, you also get perfect progressive signal.
