Cinemek G35: Does It Exist?

UPDATE: After weeks of nail-biting, I decided to cancel my order.

One hour ago I received a UPS shipping confirmation from Cinemek, so the unit is on it's way.

Congrats Greg. It's too bad you had to cancel the order to get it sent, but I'm glad it worked out for you.

"Better" is a subjective term. You'll have to define "better"...

Thank you, Mike. I totally disagree with christriplet's post (which came in while I was still composing my post) which says:

I can't believe you ordered from this company and paid that much money when you can purchase the letus35 for a little less and have a better product from a better company.

After lots of research, I eliminated RedRock (and others), so Letus was definitely the runner up. Even though I haven't received the unit yet, I'm still confident the G35 is a better product. I will enthusiastically post feedback once I get it and have taken it for a test drive.

Not knocking the LEX... a lot of folks love theirs. But what works for christriplet may not work for you or me. A Mustang is better than an F-150 until I need to go camping or hunting. I just hate fanboy-ism.

Are you shooting on the 200 or 200a? I'm looking for an adapter for my 150, and right now it's a tossup between the G35 and SGBlade. I'd love to see footage from the G35 and the chipset in the 150/170/200a. Right now my only hangup is the light loss of the G35 (I'm toying with doing weddings with it), because the images I've seen are gorgeous.

"Better" is a subjective term. You'll have to define "better"... because (not to knock Letus) if given the choice, I think I would buy a G35 over a LEX. I also seem to remember hearing about all kinds of build issues with the first Letus adapters.
[EDIT... wrote this while Greg was writing his post.]

Well it's a good thing the current Letus adaptors have no build issues. The Letus Ultimate is a pretty great product and the minimal light loss is a huge advantage over the G35. More light loss can get pretty expensive when you factor in the extra lights needed for a scene.

I totally agree. But for some folks, depending on their camera or situation, that almost 1 stop of light loss may not justify the extra $2500. Or the look it gives may justify to them the money they'll have to spend on lights.

Like I said, a Mustang is a superior vehicle to an F-150... right until I go camping or hunting. What works for your needs may not work for mine.

good stuff the your adapter is on the way, but it's realy not good buisness when a customer ho has already paid their money to half to take a back seat to nab.

Jus seems like taking a customer for granite.

That's great news Gregstrange! I'm glad to hear that given I'm also waiting.

Just out of curiosity, what mounts were you waiting for with your adapter? I'm waiting on the HPX170 mounts.

Agreed, and I responded to your first post because you were not speaking from experience using a Letus but from second hand conjecture floating around from a few years ago. I thought it was important to make that distinction... Otherwise users might get the wrong idea, which is no different than people standing up for Jonathan's product despite the lack of customer support.

Doesn't Philip Bloom use the letus35? I've seen him raving about it on vimeo.
I agree that better is a very subjective term. Noted and thanks!

Yeah, I believe he mentioned in his review of the SGBlade that he still thinks the Letus Ultimate is the best. I just don't have the $5k to fork out on one :)

And I need to clarify my earlier comment that I had heard about build issues with the early Letus adapters... I was only stating that to point out that there is almost always issues of some sort with the first run of new products from new companies. Not trying to knock the current line of Letus adapters in any way.

Greg,
I want to publicly apologize to you for the delay in response to you. There is no excuse for it and it's lame. I'm not trying to rip anyone off here, just trying to get the best product possible out to my customers. Yes, I am pretty busy right now. Between NAB and taxes :/ these few weeks have been pretty crazy. However that is no excuse for poor communication. I look forward to hearing what you think of the unit. Thanks again.

PS I will be in vegas this week I think I owe you a beer.

Jonathan, I'm slammed this whole week. I don't even get to go to NAB and it's in my own back yard, otherwise I'd love to have you buy me a beer. I'm really looking forward to getting the G35 and will let you know how it works for me.

Jonathan, so for the rest of the people who had ordered the G35 6-7 weeks ago, what is the approximate shipping date we are looking at right now? Will be great if you can let us know. Thanks.

I am a proud user of the EX1. I do mainly commercials and corporate films. I have been through the net searching for the best 35mm adaptor until i finally decided to go for the Cinemek G35. I even devised a system with mirror to flip the image on the EX1 LCD. I sent a mail weeks back to Cinemek concerning the Ex1 mount...with no reply. I resent the mail to show my concern to buy the adaptor..NO reply again. I went to Zacuto site and saw that they were selling the G35. I sent a mail to them and 5 mins later Mandy Rogers from Zacuto replied to me..so prompt and precise in the answer. Mr Houser you have a great product but please at least talk to your customers because there are many great options outside.

My experience with Cinemek

My experience with Cinemek

Hello,

I am also experiencing a major shipping delay of my Cinemek G35, which was ordered and paid in full on 20 March 2009. At the time, I understood the disclaimer on the official Cinemek website, stating the approximate delay of 3 weeks. It has now been almost 5 weeks since the order was placed and I have yet to receive an update on the status of my unit.

What bothers me is not that there are existing delays, but that after two attempts to contact Jonathan following the initial 3-week period (once via email and the second one via Cinemek.com), I have yet to receive an acknowledgement or reply to those emails. I am confident Jonathan is not "out to get me", and I am convinced his product is of superb quality, but all it takes is a quick, one sentence reply acknowledging our concern.

I am very glad to have found this thread and to see an explanation from Jonathan, but I would have preferred to have heard it from him or his staff directly. It is never good to schedule a project around equipment, but at some point one has to look forward and consider other options, especially if the communication has been suddenly severed. I for one had a great initial experience with Jonathan and even complimented him on his detailed response to my first email a while back, when I was considering the purchase of the device. I hope the same level of communication is restored soon and that I am not forced to look elsewhere. In the end, the Cinemek G35 promises to be instrumental in my current endeavors, and I look forward to using it.

Kindest regards,

Fabián Aguirre

i hope Jonathan hasn't developed a phobia or dread over reading his emails. I don't think checking your emails and replying once a day, heck even once a week, is something too hard to do.
It's obvious this kind of customer service creates paranoia and feelings of distress to the customers who have laid out a big chunk of change.

No phobia or dread. It's just a lot of emails and quite a bit of information I want to get to customers correctly. I'm waiting for lead times from my machine shop so I can get accurate lead times to customers so emails are not always sent back promptly. again I apologize for this and am making efforts to get back to people in a much more prompt fashion.

Fabian, You have a new email from me outlining shipping times.

Hey jonathan,
i know that you are really busy at the moment, but i had a quick question. if i were to order the g35 today would it still be the 4 week wait (hmc150) or will it be longer because of your current situation.
Thanks
